I am riding an old Univega 63cm frame with a 57cm TT. I would like to find an old road frame that measures 59x59 and could run 32 tires. Any recommendations for old school road frames that would fit the bill?

Thommy 11-23-2007, 07:21 AM Are you lucky enough to have access to any bike shops that carry used or consignment bikes? In San Diego we are very lucky I suppose. My best advise to you is to find one of these shops and start carrying a little metric tape measurer to measure top tubes on the bikes your interested in. In a pinch you can use the IKEA paper tape measurers that they provide in the stores. Good luck and have fun finding yor new baby. MrMook 11-23-2007, 10:32 AM I don't know the specs of old road frames enough to help you out directly, but since your in VT, I'll share some of my favorite shops (you may already know these, but they're all great): If you're near Burlington, check out the Old Spokes Home. These guys specialize in breathing new life into old bikes, so they may have some solutions for you. They have tons of stuff, and a sweet bike museum upstairs. http://oldspokeshome.com/ Another VT resource is Free Ride Montpelier. They're a coop in Montpelier, and they have tons of old frames for sale, as well as space and tools for you to work on your ride. Well worth the sliding-scale membership if you need a space to work. They get donations of old bikes, and the last time I was there, they were literally overflowing with frames. Limited hours, so check the website. http://freeridemp.wordpress.com/ Oh yeah, and Green Mountain Bikes in Rochester has been a great place find older parts for building my fixie. I'm pretty sure they have everything (including a bicycle powered draw-bridge). www.greenmountainbikes.com -MrMook (exit 2) anthony.delorenzo 11-26-2007, 06:56 PM I am riding an old Univega 63cm frame with a 57cm TT. I have an old Miyata 1000 touring frame in that size. I've run 37mm tires in it, and it's a super strong frame (splined cromo tubing). Not using it anymore, PM me if interested. Regards, Anthony ukiahb 11-26-2007, 08:25 PM looks like you are already set...but if not, old sport touring "10 speeds" with 27" wheels will easily accommodate 32mm tires as they originally came w/ 1.25" tires, which is about 31mm or so. Usually the brakes have enough adjustment range to drop the required 4mm if you switch to 700C wheels. |
