What's the technical term? And where can I get replacements?

I'm in the process of stripping my bike so it can be repainted (you can see why in the pic.)
Is that cable -guide -stop or whatchamcallit a Trek thing or a Shimano thing?

Thanks!

Wow. That was way easier than I thought. For some reason I thought they were somehow different.

BEHOLD my mad wrenching skillz!

Thanks and happy Thanksgiving.

Hey PseuZQ.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Yeah they're cable stops. You're half right. :p

Bummer on the paint. You having it sent back to Trek or are you doing it yourself?

Bringing it to Joe's Bicycle painting in Salinas, CA as suggested by some other posters.
Trek would probably sue me for patent infringement if they saw what I planned to do with it. :D

Stay tuned!

PS -- I'll post some more pics of the paint damage.

I'm waiting for one of those internal seatclamp adapter things so I can continue working on it using a proper workstand.

After the paint job it's getting full dura-ace, Chris King headset and AlphaQ fork. Already have all the components except the rear d. which should be arriving shortly.

About the fork: To remove, whack it with a rubber mallet and a wood block, correct?

The fork should slide off with minimal or no resistance without any whacking - now that you have the stem removed.

It ain't budging. The steerer is cromoly, and I had a helluva time even removing the aluminum spacers due to all the corrosion.

Hmmm. I'll go check it again.

In that case, I guess you might have to resort to tapping the steerer tube past the corrosion. Some penetrating oil might help if you let it soak for a few hours.

Thanks - got it off. Used a little Liquid Wrench and removed the top of the headset (which i discovered was pretty trashed as well. Sounded like shaking a box of cereal.)

Use PB Blaster on the steerer tube if it is stubborn. Light taps with a rubber mallet may get a better, and less painful, result.
