Hey

I'm a roadie but thought a fixie would be fun to scoot around town with. I found the following on my local (Toronto) craigslist.

I'm looking for something cheap <$500 as the rest is tied up in race bikes.

Is this bike a good bang for my buck? Good componentry, price?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Dura Ace 7600 167.5mm NJS track crankset,
Sugino Zen Messenger 45t chainring,
Shimano UN-52 107mm bottom bracket,
KMC 1/8" Z chain,
Miche/Alex DA28 wheelset (handbuilt at Urbane),
Seca tires and tubes,
Miele 54cm double butted steel frame,
new unknown black headset,
Kalin 27.0 seatpost,
San Marco Ergo saddle,
Dura Ace cog,
Cinelli stem,
Cinelli Giro D'Italia 42cm handlebars,

Five hundred bucks.

decent/meh parts on a meh frame. I live in TO too... I think you can do better. If you're not going to be tracking or doing anything too serious on it you would be better served with something cheaper. if you don't have the time or parts I guess it could be a decent deal... but honestly you can get a new fixed gear bike for that price, which would be my choice.. if you ever really got into fixies there are a bunch of parts on that thing you'd probably toss... and not many you'd keep. if you already race don't buy into the looks deal.. ride quality. I turned a Cervelo tt frame into a fixie.. and the total build with mainly ultegra parts is just 200 more than what they're asking... with the large majority of it put in the frame.

I'd try riding a fixie before you buy one... who knows maybe it's not something you will really enjoy. Not that i think you won't get addicted....

for the price i don't think you could do much better than this though the frame looks kinda meh. put tape on the bars too.
