View Full Version : Hey, anyone have a part for this Raleigh Sports?
sekaijin 11-30-2007, 12:30 PM I got this 1978 Raleigh Sports to fix up for my wife. It was a great find for the price (free).
As you can see, it is without its chainguard.
Does anyone have a chainguard that would match? Many thanks ...

Dave_Stohler 12-01-2007, 06:52 AM Wald makes a chrome guard that will fit. Go to any bike store and ask to see the catalog.

Dave, are you sure? I can't find one on www.waldsports.com

Watching that - thanks!
bicyclerepairman 12-05-2007, 03:52 PM If not, I'd be removing (& storing in the attic) those fenders. The rattling noise they make gets on my nerves. If she uses a velcro strap on her pants cuff, there's no need for the chain guard.....which IMHO is just another source of annoying rattling noises.
Ahhh. Peace and quiet (riding).

No she's not going to ride it in the rain, but I still think she'll like having the fenders and chainguard.
She is only going to use it to tool around the neighborhood a little. She is a non-cyclist and I am trying to coax her onto a bike for the first time in her adult life. I think the retro-styling of the bike with the fenders will be appealing to her. Same with the chainguard, plus I don't want just the thought of getting dirty to deter her.
I emailed the winner of the Wald chainguards. He said they fit Schwinns not Raleighs, but he might have something universal that will fit. I need to send him the bolt hole measurements.
Dave_Stohler 12-06-2007, 04:00 PM Bolt hole measurements? A couple of washers is all you'll need. Just make sure that the stays are long enough.

No, I mean the distance between bolt holes. The Wald chainguards in the auction are a mix of 13 inch, 16 inch and 18 inch size. The winner asked me for a "bolt hole measurements" size, center to center, and I guess he means the distance from the rear bolt hole to the top one near the front.
kazeebo 12-31-2007, 06:47 PM Did you find a chain guard that will work? Please let me know if you didn't.
We don't list them on our new site because we no longer manufacturer them.
Happy New Year everyone!

No I did not - I had a few email conversations that went nowhere, with ebay buyers and sellers of a couple of vintage lots of Wald chainguards.
Can you help? That would be awesome. Thank you for noticing this thread.

So, if you no longer make heavy, old fashioned chrome stuff, just what the h3ll DO you make anymore? I can't understand why you'd abandon a market niche (albeit small) that you dominate. Makes no sense at all.
Oh, well, ignore my previous suggestion. I now know that Wald no longer makes the one thing that EVERYBODY knew they had. Besides, if this is their business plan, I doubt they'll be in business much longer.......
sekaijin 01-22-2008, 05:58 AM As a postscript, I wanted to say a big thank you to kazeebo who sent me not one, but two Wald chrome chainguards for the cost of shipping. Case closed.
And Dave - lighten up, dude! You don’t like Wald’s business strategy. OK. No need to rant at someone who’s just being helpful.
Peace all.
Superunleaded 01-22-2008, 09:07 AM happy ending all around :)
kodus to kazeebo and Wald for stepping in
