View Full Version : Vittoria Open Corsa evo cx
JohnnyPedals 12-01-2007, 11:19 AM I ordered a pair of Vittoria Rubino Pro tires from ProBikeKit.
When my order came there was a pair of Vittoria Open Corsa evo cx in the package instead.
My question is should I go through the hassle of exchanging them or just use the Corsas?
I will be using them as an everyday tire in Northen New Jersey.
I know the Corsas are Much more expensive but if they're a more flat prone or fast wearing tire is it worth it?

They won't last as long, but the ride quality is as good as you'll get with the clincher. IMO the flat protection isn't as big of a differential as the mileage issue of both tires. I wouldn't send them back...
Bertrand 12-01-2007, 11:41 AM Keep em. They're great tires, fun to ride on, but in my experience, very limited durability.
JohnnyPedals 12-01-2007, 11:56 AM Thanks for the quick responses.
By limited durability do you mean Many flats or mileage?
Also what mileage are we talking 1000miles,2000,etc?

toronto-rider 12-01-2007, 03:39 PM Had them on both set of wheels. one set lasted a long time, the other very short. I think the best tires out there discounting the life of the tires.
Just ordered some training tires from PBK, will keep the CX's for my nice wheels.
Considering the cost of the CX from PBK and the training tires, I only saved $10.
Keep them, you will love how they role and feel.
Slartibartfast 12-01-2007, 10:06 PM I ride them on two bikes. They're great, and in my experience they're as durable as anything other than Conti GP 3000 or 4000. I ride em for about 3,000 miles and then ditch em. I haven't found them more flat-prone than anything other than Contis, but I haven't tried the Rubino Pros. I sure wouldn't send them back!
Argentius 12-01-2007, 10:18 PM they last IME about 1/2 as long as a Rubino Pro.
If you like, you could sell 'em on eBay for enough to buy 3 or 4 R-pro's.
Slartibartfast 12-01-2007, 10:41 PM Yep. Different perspective. I don't ride R-pros, so no experience with them. My Corsas last long enough, so that's good enough for me.
JohnnyPedals 12-02-2007, 03:36 AM I'll definitely keep them. I just hope I don't get too spoiled by them.:p

Prepare to be spoiled...:D
dhtucker4 12-04-2007, 08:38 AM Rubino Pro - 120 tpi, Open Corsa EVO - 290 tpi.
I think the Rubino Pros will wear more than the Open Corsas. Every Open Corsa tire is almost as good as a tubular tire. The tubular Corsa has won major races for over 20 years.
Of course, the Open Corsa series of tires is handmade, whereas the Rubino Pro tires are not.
RocketDog 12-04-2007, 09:15 AM I relegated my corsa evo cx to trainer duty after 250 miles because of flats. Greatly inferior to GP4000s and Pro Races for flat protection in my experience. Perhaps I was unlucky and I do ride in an urban environment with lots of debris, but I'd vote for sending them back.
lawrence 12-04-2007, 02:42 PM I vote for sending them back. I have Zaffiro's, Michelin Pro Race 1 and 2, Kendas, and Open Corsa EVO CX.
The Zaffiro's are terrific. I have about 7,000 miles on them. The Open Corsa are light, roll very quickly, but nick/cut very easy, and there's not much rubber on them wheels. The rubber is very thin and very soft so you will wear them out very fast. But they hold the road very well. For racing on a cleaned, freshly swept road, they are wonderful. I have them on a pair of Aero wheels and switch wheels and use them only when I'm riding with a faster group and I need a little of an edge. But when I'm riding with them, I'm praying I don't get a flat.
