I read a report that Lance is not participating in this summers olympic games... can anyone confirm this? what do you all think about that?... I think he should represent his country and try for the Gold.

I heard on the CNN "People in the news" program this morning that Lance was skipping the Olympics to go home and spend more time with his kids. I can't fault a man for putting his family first.

I like LA but I'd rather see OTHER American riders in the Olympics -- give others a shot at some glory. I'd much rather see Lance riding here in the states than anywhere else.

Gotta give the guy some credit

1. I have heard so many people ***** about him divorcing his wife and "ruining" their family after she went through cancer with him (yes THREE women have said almost the same thing to me, they make it sound as if his wife had cancer!?")
2. I know people commented that he would be too burned out for the Olympics but I bet it would be a guarenteed podium, with a very good chance at gold. It takes some family dedication to give up a high chance at gold.
Number one gets me, it has only been women, I can understand I GUESS, to an extent but I had one women angry, going so far as to call him an ******* when I mentioned he was dating Sheryl Crowe. I mean the man gives up possible Olympic gold for his kids, but you hear little to nothing about it in the news. Yet he dates someone after his divorce god forbid he is the antichrist?

hmmm, giving up "olympic dreams" to have some time with his children... that'd make a pretty good case in any future custody / child support hearings too. Just a thought.

I am a guy and I think if Lance cared so much about his kids he would make sure that the Sheryl Crowe thing wasn't so public. What is Kristen supposed to say when one of the kids asks " who is daddy kissing on TV?" I am not saying that he should not have a another relationship until his kids are teens and are better able to understand these things, I just think that if his kids were his number one priority, he would keep his relationship with Sheryl very low profile. And if she cared, she would do the same.

As far as a guaranteed podium and a good chance at gold, is the whole US Olympic team going to be US Postal?

Lance doesn't give a crap about the Olympics, plus he's probably worried about security
(for good reason).

Perhaps his kids weren't raised believing in the unrealistic and rather unnatural concept of eternal monogamy? It could be they're just happy to see their father in love again.

You might want to tell your women friends that Lance met his former wife AFTER he had gone through cancer. She DID NOT go through cancer with him. Read his first book. It's all there.

I didnt say he should not have another relationship, I said that for the sake of his children, that it would be better to keep his relationship with Sheryl Crowe on a much lower profile while they are too young to understand the/your " unnatural concept of eternal monogamy"

But who knows, maybe if they see their mom or dad go through 3 to 4 relationships before they get 18, they will become bitter and confused like Lance was, they will turn to cycling to escape, and then we will have our next TDF champion! So maybe its not such a bad thing after all!

Ashame not to see him in the Olympics. But he didn't medal last time, he's getting older, and it might be good for American cycling to get some other names (Hamilton? Leipheimer?) in front of the U.S. Public.

Lance is an international media figure. Sheryl Crowe is an international media figure. What are the chances they are able to keep their relationship "low key," i.e. out of the press? Esp. during the TdF? Slim and none and slim just left town.

I have an impression that Lance and Sheryl might have decided to "defuse" media speculation (and papparzzi chasing them all over) by being reasonably public and, thereby, trying to have some control over what appeared where and when. (The National Enquirer doesn't have much of a scoop when OLN has shown them flying together on a private plane and Lance pointing out her guitars at his Spanish home.)

Lance has never been the kind of media pig that you see with some stars (Dennis Rodman, anyone?). He didn't try his divorce case in the press. (Indeed, as far as I know, neither he nor Kristin have every publicly denigrated the other or explained the reasons for the divorce.) He has not only talked about devotion to his family, but seems to have acted on it as well. He probably deserves the benefit of the doubt on this.

Lance won a bronze medal in 2000 for the time trial. Ekimov got gold, Ullrich got silver.
