So I hear alot of good things about the ride quality of carbon tubulers. Would that translate to carbon clinchers with say, Grifo challerger clincher tires?

Rich The good ride quality of carbon tubulars comes from the tubulars, not the carbon. fleck 12-03-2007, 11:02 AM carbon clinchers for CX doesn't sound like a good idea to me. The low tire pressures you run have you hitting rim on rock quite often. It just sounds like an expensive mix. rich caramadre 12-03-2007, 11:10 AM Yeah, your probably right. But damn they look cool. Rich FTM 12-03-2007, 11:12 AM Why not just go ahead and get tubulars? Then the 'ride' will match the 'look' the mayor 12-03-2007, 11:18 AM carbon clinchers for CX doesn't sound like a good idea to me. The low tire pressures you run have you hitting rim on rock quite often. It just sounds like an expensive mix. It is. I have carbon tubbie wheels that are close to 15 years old that I have never had a problems with. But...I did try a set of carbon clincher wheels and returned them with a big chunk of sidewall missing. I didn't bottom the wheel out very hard, but it broke and the tire blew off. Get tubbies.....you will be glad you did. This weekend at Wrentham,MA, on frozen bumpy and rocky ground, I ran 38 lbs in the rear....I felt the rim bottom a few times a lap, but it was a nice cushy ride. rich caramadre 12-03-2007, 11:35 AM I guess I'm hesitant to go to tubulars because I see at least 1 or 2 people rolling them every week at the races here. I know if their gluded correctly you shuoln't have a problem, but! Rich Tubbies roll because: a. they were glued wrong b. they were glued a long time ago c. water got under them d.all of the above PeanutButterBreath 12-03-2007, 11:46 AM There is one guy who has rolled tires in two races (once in Heber, once yesterday). In both cases he was using the Tufo tape only. I inspected another rolled tire last weekend and there was way less glue than I have been using and is recommended in the vaious threads this season. I'm guessing it was glued per the procedure for road tires. Knock on wood, I have not had any issues on two wheelsets. Just to be safe I re-glue one tire after riding it near-flat for half a lap and really rolling it back and forth through the turns. cpark 12-03-2007, 12:46 PM The good ride quality of carbon tubulars comes from the tubulars, not the carbon.
