I just came across this the other day. I've got to build a shed so I can get a superbike to put my good wheels on (low flange record hubs, 14-20 5-speed freewheel, 27"rigida clincher rims). They're on an '84 Trek 500 now, which is an OK bike, but they deserve better.

Nice post--and a bit of a trip down memory lane for the vanished superbike 'greats' of the '70s.
(My brother--racing buddy and training partner--used to race on a Peugeot PX-10e--and stomp a whole lotta people who had fancier gear--and never broke a derailler, or had an equipment failure from the Rose Bowl, Nevada City, Gastown Grand Prix, Volunteer Park, Canadian Road Race Championships (Montreal), etc....)
Nice NYC slant--Prospect Park is my daily ride--although I don't recognize any of the shops mentioned--I'm a relative newcomer to NYC.
I see one old-timer in Prospect Park occasionally--maybe it's Bikeman?--riding a perfect ("Italian" he proudly tells me) Masi Criterium--he tells me he bought it new in 1972 and has owned it ever since--he looks to be in his late 60s--early 70s. I think he told me he paid around $400 for it--serious change in the days of under $2000 cars...
I get serious bike lust everytime I see it...it is the essence of the light frame superbike.
