I think I translated this right (my pidgeon Dutch/Flemish is not great) Nys wants to be part of the Rabo ProTour team in 2009. His cross contract runs out end '08/09 season and his goals will be Paris-Roubaix (He has already ridden in 2001, 41st after being on the attack all day) and De Ronde.
I mean his endurance will come before his explosive power, but I would not know about converting hat some of thing, at the moment the only riders I know to do that is Boom and De Vlaeminck both talented but whether Nys could do it is another question.
Any thoughts?

That was pretty much my understanding, also another story that he was dope tested several times over the weekend in Spain, of all places :) Babelfish end translation with "the rider of Rabobank laughs still".
As far as other riders who ride both rode and cyclocross. Gadret and Mourey both ride on the road but really don't do a full cross season. Franzoi rides a full road season and I think in part lost his current contract with Lampre becaue of doing cross also.
DeClerq was also a good road rider, I think he may have won a TdF sprint. He is in the classic '94 Paris-Roubaix that Tchmil won. Adri van der Poel also did both pretty well I believe.

I would like to see him in Paris-Roubaix but that would probably require a modified cross season.

Adri had the best career as far as palmares in both disciplines

The Classics will require alot more patience and tactics than simply blowing a cross race up from the gun.

Nys rode the tour of Belgium in 2006 with the Rabo continental squad and finished 8th overall right behind Nico Eeckhout and in front of Steven De Jongh. He's quite handy on the road.
He must be getting tired of winning everything and is looking for a new challenge. That's likely what the olympic mountain bike experiment was about.

That is pretty much the reason he gives for both.

Roger de Vlaeminck wasn't to shabby at road & cyclocross, either, although of course his brother was the King of cross.

IIRC, Nys has over 50 jerseys hanging in his closet. Might as well go looking for some new ones in different colors.
