View Full Version : Used Mavic Kysrium ES - Good Deal or Not ?
nismosr 12-04-2007, 02:24 PM So I've won this Set of 2007 Mavic Kysrium ES on Ebay - the wheels are in good shape but the rear hub has some cosmetic flaws. Apparently the original owner tried to clean the hub with chemical solution that removed the red paint. It's really a big deal to me. Just wondering if any of you guys would pay $450 for the wheelset. Here are the pictures.

Ligero 12-04-2007, 03:18 PM That isn't paint as far as I know, it is anodized. He most likely used a industrial strength degreaser which will remove anodizing off of aluminum.
speedsterveloce 12-04-2007, 08:23 PM I'm sure the wheels function fine but if you watch the sales you can find them new for around $625. IMO for a pair of used wheels for that price they should be in near perfect condition.
nismosr 12-04-2007, 08:53 PM Bad deal then ? Although I see Older Kysrium SSC SL still goes to like $400.
eugkim 12-04-2007, 10:14 PM Since you already have them, consider it a good deal, ride them and move on.
Coolhand 12-05-2007, 05:27 AM Its an ok deal. I wouldn't worry about it too much and just ride the crap out of the wheels.
swerv512 12-05-2007, 06:19 AM didnt the seller post pics or expand on the cosmetic flaws of the wheels during the auction?
I wouldn't ride Ksyriums unless I was getting paid to do it, but that wasn't your question.
If the seller cleaned the wheels up after the auction, it's his problem. He should either take them back or negotiate a price you are happy with.
If they were in crappy condition all along, well then, yes, you paid too much. It also speaks volumes as to what the wheels will look like after more use. Oh well, live and learn. Most of us are guilty...
Davisek524 12-07-2007, 04:24 PM I just bought a new set for $600 and, from you pictures, it looks like there are only small, cosmetic defects--functionally equivalent to my wheels. So, I say, EXCELLENT DEAL.
nrspeed 12-07-2007, 05:15 PM I confess to buying a new tubular set of ES's on performancebike this week for around $520 with the 20% off coupon.
I will ride them for a year and sell them on ebay for close to what I paid. Not too bad.

Same here , they came in today . Putting a pair of Vittoria Corsa Evo Cx Tubulars on them.
tete de la tour 12-09-2007, 10:49 PM me three i put conti sprinters on my using tufo tape. i think mine came out closer to 530$
Forrest Root 12-09-2007, 11:55 PM I think it's a lousy deal, personally, but then having put some miles on Ksyrium ES test wheels, I was anything but impressed. I can think of at least 20 or so other tubulars that I'd use before I'd buy Ksyrium tubies. They're like the anti-tubie.
nrspeed 12-10-2007, 07:16 AM The ES tubulars for that price still came in a lot cheaper than the favorite custom build on this forum - WI hubs, CX Ray spokes, Escape or Reflex rim. The resale value on the ES's will be way higher too. Having never ridden them, I thought- why not try them out and resell them later?
nismosr 12-10-2007, 07:54 AM Thanks for the Input . yes they are staying on my Brother's bike .. They are clinchers btw.
nismosr 12-10-2007, 08:42 PM They are my brother wheelset here you go.

tete de la tour 12-11-2007, 11:04 PM i'm not trying to be a jerk but I believe the front wheel is on backwards ( i don't know if it matters performance wise). I believe is should look more like this

MadCowMoo 12-12-2007, 04:46 AM And all his time i never though about putting both red spokes on the same side of my clincher or tubular set , i just was making sure the front clincher tire is rotating the right way :)

nrspeed 01-08-2008, 01:27 PM I love Mavic Ksyrium ES's!!!!!
[Although I confess to never having ridden them]
I sold my ES tubulars for $715 on ebay. With the 10% credit at Performance form the buy, the 20% off at purchase- I made a quick $230.
