I read the posts on a rain bike and with the recent weather I've been thinking about getting out in the rain. Now, I got two questions. What type of precautions should be taken after a ride when you have no rain bike? At the moment I just wipe everything down and lube up the chain. Should I be worried about the BB and hubs with 105?

Also, is there any clothing that you guys have to make riding in the rain a little more comfortable? I did get caught in a down pour the other week, the only annoying part was the soaking wet shoes. The water pools up pretty good when the base of the shoe is solid. I never got out the next day but I suspect they were still very wet.

Recently the weather has been pretty crappy and I'm starting to get to the point of riding regardless of rain or not.

Thanks

I did the century Lobster Ride in Maine last Saturday. Rain start to finish, no let up for 102 miles. Temp was only about 60. I don't think any special clothing or shoes would have helped. You are gonna get wet, and that's all there is to it. It actually wasn't all that bad, except for when one of the guys I was riding with, flatted at the last rest stop, at about 80 miles. Between the nature break, a quick snack, water refills and the tube change, we where there about 15 minutes and the chill set in. I didn't feel too good then! When we took off, I felt even worse because of the wind chill effect. It took about 10 minutes before I worked out of it and then felt fine again for the rest of the ride. Oh, and best of all, the rain stopped about 5 minutes after we finished the ride.

If your bike turned into a sand (or worm) magnet, hose it down first- then use a silicone-based spray cleaner.

I read a good tip to help dry out biking shoes after a wet ride. After pulling out the insoles stuff the shoes with newspaper and leave in a dry area. The next day the shoes should be dry.
