I know - V-Brakes on a cross bike. Sorry. Anyway, I just put the Xtr brakes on my X-Fire and they hit the frame/fork when they move out. The screw part that holds in the pad is what is hitting. So much so that I can't even tighten them down. What am I doing wrong? It has been a long time away from V-brakes for me.
I am going to use this as my main road bike for the winter/spring so I need some more stopping power.
Can someone help me out with this?
Do I need to scrap it and get some Paul's cantis?
Thanks for the help.

sitzpickel -
Do you not need an adapter with the mini-v? And they stop??? Just what I am looking for.
What mini-v are you using?
Thanks for your reply.

sorry, didn't realize we were trying to be helpful...
i thought the x-fire had regular style headset, not hidden set. thought that was one of the "upgrades" with the x-knight?
wonder when e-ritchie is going to cast up some integrated head lugs.

I'm using these:
http://www.bikeparts.com/productinfo/Tektro-R5-Mini-Linear-Pull-Brake-Front-or-Rear-Black-33633-98789.html
with these pad holders:
http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/COMPBRKPADSRD/BR0035
and the adjustable noodle:
http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/COMPBRKPARTNOOD/BR7107
I have Campy shifters, so I can release the brakes with the shift lever and still have them nice and tight. The adjustable pipe helps as well.

Looks like the tektro RX5's. These are great brakes...have them on my Kelly. No adaptor needed, but you can use one if you want. The adapter would let you set the pads out a little wider for more mud clearence, but you don't need them. These brakes stop great and they're usually on ebay for $30 a pair.
