I have a 2007 Tarmac Expert Double and Im going to change the crank to a 50/34 compact on the front. I have a 12/27 on the rear and would like to change this to a SRAM OG 11/28.

The 2008 Tarmac Expert comes with that cassette,11/28. Can I run that on the DURA ACE Short cage Derailleur that came on my 2007? Man I hope so. Only diff I see is the Wheels are diff on the 2008. Your thoughts?

The '08 Tarmac Pro Compact has 50/34 front rings, 11-28 cassette and a shorty rear der. Can't see why that combo wouldn't work on your '07 Tarmac Expert. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question?

cheers,
scott

Nope, your correct , thats the question. Just want to run the 11/28 on the rear instead of the 12/27

I have the same bike and asked the same question at my LBS yesterday. The rear der is fine. The front der will have to be lowered a bit for the compact crank. Which front crank are you looking at?

Word on the street is that the Shimano Ultegra shifts better and has less issues than the FSA cranks. The whole bike is Shimano already. My main concern was the 11/28 SRAM rear cassette which is what I want to change it to. Shimano shows that the highest tooth for the derailleur on the DuraAce is 27, hence my concern.

What cassette/crank are you going with?

Specialized Carbon Compact crank and SRAM OG-1070 11-28 tooth cassette here....

simplton, have you had any chain drops or poor shifting issues?

Do you guys have a pref on the crank? The new TARMAC has the Shimano Ultegra ice gray one on it.

I just read the guys had issues with the FSA and stated the Shimano was better. Who knows?

I had some problems with the chain coming off the outside but I think I have it fixed. Had to tweak the outside plate on the front der a little. Front shifting performance is "ok" but certainly not stellar... FWIW, my 1st road bike had FSA cranks and rings and I never had shifting issues...

Congrats on your new ride BTW, SWEET!!!

I really dont care on the crank which brand if you will, I just dont have ANY issues with my current double 53/39 and I dont want any issues switching to the compact crank.
Cant wait to switch her over.

That's exactly where I'm at. I have no problems with the FSA so I was thinking about going with the same one in compact form. The Ultegra SL is good, but I don't know if it will look good. I like the idea of the 11-28 with the compact cause it seems like it's all the benefits of a triple.

What about the regular ultegra? Does it come in 50/34?

yes, you can get the regular ultegra in a 50/34

Thanks man. I'm diggin it. Weather is not really conducive to riding outdoors so I'm relegated to the trainer or rollers now. :mad2:
