Hey guys looking to get a new pair of road shoes. I want a shoe that is comfortable for a lot of training in, but stiff and able to do some racing. My budget is around 200$. I will be using look keo pedals. Any help would be awesome.

there, you've done your research. now go try some on. they come in narrow, medium, and wide widths, so they probably fit just about every foot. enjoy.

This has been discussed before. The only way to find comfy shoes FOR YOU is to try on several pairs of shoes. Some fit different between the models even the same manufacturer. Problem is finding an LBS that carries a large selection of shoes. Once I find something that I like, I stick with that model until they stop making them. A good pair of cycling shoes will last several years, especially the carbons.

SIDI's may be much better shoes, but I tried them on and they didn't fit that well. Shimano on the other hand did fit well so thats what I use (the M225)

for 200, i would stay away from sidis. you're not even going to come close in buying a full carbon sole. for putting alot of miles and racing, having a carbon sole is a plus.

if you're going to stretch your budget, then sure check out the sidi 6.6. if not, check out shimano or specialized.

My all-time fave is the Nike Poggio (I,II, III, and IV) that is no longer in production. ebay and a few shops still have them, usually under $200.

My experience with Sidi's is they fit wonderfully and are very comfortable, but all the complicated ratcheting, screwing, folding, and twisting gizmos corrode and/or come apart after 5,000 miles or so. The upside is they're nearly all repairable or replaceable. Sidis taught me the best road shoe for me is one with three velcro closures and no buckles.

Shimano R215.

I've been using this for a while and they are great.
You can find them at lower price if you shop around since R220 and R300 have replace it.

Well said.

I like my Nike pair and am glad to know they're made by DMT so I can just go that route should Nike not make em anymore or should there be no new colors. (Yes I'd like a new pair just so I can switch em about or for when my shoes are soaked but don't want 2 of the same color).

Northware is a decent brand too OP. Check them out perhaps.

If you want Sidi shoes, minimum $319

Sidi Genius 5.5 Carbon Composite (http://www.glorycycles.com/sige55caco.html)

I have tried all the shoes but the Specialized shoes. For me the Northwave fits the best. Wider, taller front and more narrow heel. Then Shimano.

If you can't go to a LBS, then buy with Performance. You can always return them if they don't fit right.

If THEY FIT YOUR FEET. I used Sidi for 12+ yrs. but my feet changed and they no longer fit. Northwave and Shimano now fit best.

But I love SIDI.

Btw, those are not full carbon soles. But stiff enough.

Not sure if all of em are but I know that the top end ones are based on DMTs top end carbon soles. Nike doesn't have the magnesium version though and there aren't any new designs/colors for now.

I have the Nike Lance pair with the buckle. I also got an Altea 2plus but that's with my Keo cleats for my hybrid.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Carnac. They fit wider feet much better than most any brand, and are very well constructed from top notch materials. They're my favorites, and I'm Italian!

When did Sidi start making a narrow shoe?

At any rate, through experimentation, I've found that regular Sidis are too narrow. Sidi Megas are better, but their toe box is too small. Specialized Carbon Pros fit too funky, and their "attempt" to correct what is alleged--by Specialized--to be a failry common foot alignment did not play nice, at all, with my knees and other geometric challenges in my legs. I found Shimano R215s to be just right.

Go figure. Previous Shimano shoes I'd had were too narrow, so I guess it's a good thing I returned to the tried and true shoe buying law, i.e. try 'em on before deciding.

Just go to a shop and try stuff on. It's much better to have a crap shoe fit you properly than a bling shoe fit you like crap.

When did Sidi start making a narrow shoe?
A few years ago. Only the Genius:

2008 Sidi Genius 5 Narrow

The Sidi Genius 5 Narrow is specifically shaped for riders with narrower feet. There's a whole lot more going on here than just a narrow toe box. Rather, you'll get a slender cut upper throughout the shoe for a tailored fit from toe to heel for a width of B-C. Black with subtle Red highlights, available in sizes 40-52.

Shimano does make a wide version of the R215's. I have those, but they are not as wide as the Specialized.....
