I'm looking for a very lightweight set of road tires for my mountain bike for urban riding/paved bike trail. I prefer to keep the size around 1.4-5". I'm a big fan of Conti but their "urban" tires weigh more than my knobbies! I can't find much info on the Tom Slicks, but one site spec'd them at 650g -- that doesn't seem right at all.

Thanks for your help.

Maybe the 650g was for a wire bead? Still wires aren't usually more than 100g more. I'd take anything under 400g but would love to keep it even less. Who is QBP?

specialized fatboys in the 1.25 are 390g. I put thousands of miles on them when I was commuting on a mtb, no complaints.

They have Schwalbe Kojac slicks, claiming 1.35" and 295 gm for the folding model.

Looks like Ritchey decided to post the weights: http://ritcheylogic.com/web/Ritchey~Logic/Ritchey~Site/Templates/eproducts_single.aspx?id=24134&live=true

QBP is a large distributor of bicycle parts.

We make a foldable 26x1.4 road slick that comes in at 330 g per tire called the XCR Road. We also make the XC Road tire that is 26x1.4 weighing 420 g per tire what has a wire bead.

Very nice. Looks like that may be a great option.

I like Tom Slicks for an urban MTB road tire. The weight you quote seemed high to me, so I weighed a new one I have (1.4/kevlar)- it's 390g (don't know the advertised weight). Not the lightest MTB slick, but not bad either. I also have some Performance house-brand ultra-cheapo (<$10) slicks which are OK but don't ride or handle as well as TS's. Don't know the weight, but they're heavier than TS's too.

FWIW- In urban-use MTB slicks I think durability and rolling resistance are WAY more important than a little extra weight. I figure 100g/tire difference is nothing on an MTB that's almost twice the mass of my road bike.

I'm kind of late to be adding to this thread, but Panaracer Pasela TG kevlars are pretty light. They make them in 26, various widths, and weight should be well less than 400 grams. I'm running Pasela TGs in 700x28 and the advertised weight is 280g.

Not TOO late -- haven't bought anything yet. I'll give them a check. Thanks.

Checkout the Panaracer Urban Max... if you can find 'em.

Running 26x1.25" on my MTB and they're fast as all hell, faster than the twister pros I used to have them on.
