Anybody know where Thomson components are made? I was looking on Ebay and there are a lot of their stems selling for about $75. The seller is out of Hong Kong, which always makes me nervous. I've never had luck with anything I've bought from Hong Kong before. The electronics I've bought have been no better than their rubber dog-**** from 50 years ago. I know we are supposed to be a new world economy but are these simply knock-offs like their fake golf clubs back in the eighties??? Thanks in advance...BoB

Why would you want to order one from Hong Kong plus the shipping hassles if you can get one here in the US for just a few bucks more???

Georgia.
Thomson components are made in Macon, GA by the bicycle component division of the L.H. Thomson Company, Inc. The company is an engineering design firm with long-standing ties to the aerospace industry. It strongly supports the central Georgia bicyling scene, as illustrated by the photo of the guy wearing the Thomson t-shirt. :D Also, click on "News" under the "Bicycle Components" tab.

It sounds like the ones on Ebay are knock-offs. And if not I don't have the confidence in them I do in my USA bought Thomson seatpost. Anybody noticed a difference with the Thomson stem over other brands?

The difference is that Thompson stems (and seatposts) are beautiful. Just about everything else out there is ugly. There are some exceptions but none at Thompson's price.

Riding an X2. Great stem - very stiff, absolutely bulletproof, no creaking. Also, tightening torque recommended by Thomson (about 5 nm) is less than that recommended by a number of other manufacturers - I suspect that is nice with carbon bars or steer tubes. Equal quality, in my opinion, as their seatposts.
They're available on the web for same price range, even less, as that Hong Kong nonsense - look around. beyondbikes.com, speedgoat.com are a couple of examples I found doing a quick search.

I don't think they're counterfeit, not especially inexpensive either.
