Ive seen a lot of bikes recently with colored chains. Are they specially painted or made that way? does anybody know of a site that sells them? Thanks.

ProsperityRed 12-25-2007, 07:04 PM e.g. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=kmc+chain+red edit: I think colored chains are typically for the bmx crowd but they should pretty much all work on single speeds too... mostly for the 1/8" chain drivetrains though. I am not aware of a 3/32" colored chain. ProsperityRed 12-25-2007, 07:32 PM there are lots on ebay too; I am probably gonna get one for my new ride when it eventually finds its way to me bward1028 12-25-2007, 07:37 PM kmc. some of them hold color really well, like purple. i've heard complaints that others, like white, flake off really easily. breadandwater 12-25-2007, 08:02 PM i currently ride a Bianchi Pista... do most fixed/ss require 3/32"? I'm not versed on chain sizes since ive never needed to replace one bward1028 12-25-2007, 08:03 PM 1/8" will fit anything, b/c it's wider than 3/32. breadandwater 12-25-2007, 09:09 PM thats what i was hoping... thanks Richard 12-26-2007, 07:31 AM KMC makes their "basic" 1/8" single-speed chain in silver, blue, red, purple, white, pink and gold. We sell 'em for $12. Black goes for $10. Big with the hipster crowd, but the pink and the white look particularly crappy in a short period of time. I have the stainless version on both my fixies. PltJett 12-26-2007, 07:37 AM Just as a side note, those kmc chains are crap. They'll wear out real fast if you produce any kind of power at all. There are lots better chains out there for the serious track rider. For a street fixie rider, a beach cruiser, or a typical kid on a BMX, they're just fine.:D Pablo 12-26-2007, 09:03 AM For a street fixie rider, a beach cruiser, or a typical kid on a BMX, they're just fine.:D I'm no engineer, but considering how much I rely on my chain when on a fixie, I'd be wary of using a cheap one. |
