View Full Version : The Great Handlebar Thread
treebound 12-30-2007, 07:28 AM Okay, I've been shopping around for handlebars for a couple of different bikes, there's a whole lot of options. Then I come back to the site here trying to find the thread with the link to one I saw a reference to and I can't find the thread. So I figured I'd be bold and start a thread.
Please post a pic and description of your handlebars. Add a comment of what you like or don't like about them. Post a link if you can of where one can find them.
I've spent the better part of four hours web surfing, went to three local shops, even went down to Ben's in Milwaukee and sort of narrowed down one bike's choice to either their B302AA or B352 Northroad (both Nitto if I recall right). I'm sort of looking for a mustache type bar, or a cruiserish road bar for a MTB conversion. I'm also looking into drop bars for an eventual tourer type bike and am thinking of the Nitto Randoneur B-135, but would like comments from current owners of them.
Throw up any and all bars here, it just might help someone out.
Thanks.
funktekk 12-30-2007, 07:47 AM I have a the Easton EC90 Ergo bars. They are light and have a nice flat bar to hood transition for my campy hoods. I don't like that I can barely touch the brakes when I'm in the drops. When I am doing a long pull in the drops my hands will creep down to the flat stubs at the bottom of the bend.
Arrogant Roadie Prick 12-30-2007, 01:19 PM I have a set of the classic bend bars on my Ti road bike and a set of the Randonneur bars on my single speeder. I am refurbing a Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 this winter and will be going with another set of the Randonneur bars on it. They are great for touring type of bikes.
I have mostly ridden the bars that came with any of my bikes, the last few had the ergonomic style bars and after riding classic bars on a few of my pre ergo type bars, I'm going back to old style classic bend drop bars or Randies. I'm not going to get complicated with the position of the bends etc. I just know when I switch from one bar to the next that I own, I always like the classic bends better. It is as if they fit my positioning better for some reason.
simonton 12-30-2007, 05:02 PM Ritchey WCS ergo picked up on ebay. I saw lots of alloy bars on e-bay; I guess people are dumping them when they upgrade to carbon. Mine were around $18 including shipping for 40cm oversize. I like their apparent stiffness and light weight. ergo is fine with me.
rcnute 12-30-2007, 05:20 PM Nitto B115. The Noodles I didn't care for (swept-back tops). Haven't tried the Randonneur bars.
carbon13 12-30-2007, 05:35 PM l just bought a cadd8.
Before getting it l thought the first thing l will change are the bars, l thought a pair of ritchey classics (alloy) would fit the bill.
After about 100 miles l might just end up keeping the dale bars only time will tell.
il sogno 12-30-2007, 10:00 PM My favorite handlebars are my old Cinelli Giro d'Italia bars from the early 1980's. They are short reach shallow drop with a classic bend. All this makes 'em easier to ride in the drops.
Topher 12-31-2007, 06:41 AM I really like FSA pro-wing (alloy) bars. I just can't get comfortable with the idea and cost of carbon bars. They are cheap (I got a new one on ebay for $40, msrp is $80 I think), multiple comfortable hand positions, look good, and build well with campy.
masterbiker 12-31-2007, 06:58 AM I really like ITM stuff, I have been using them for years. I have tried everything but seem to be going back to them. I also like the FSA KWing.
cpark 12-31-2007, 07:08 AM You didn't indicate whether you want CF or Al.
I've gone to carbon handlebar and I like them a lot.
ITM K-Sword is nice but It may not be suitable for all Shimano users since you can't get the shifter high enough for some (the pic shows as high as it can be clamped on). Campy user will love it because it has 2 internal routing holes on both sides for the brake/shifter cable.
My favorite is the Stella Azzurra Tirreno. Combine that with Stella Azzurra Carbon stem and you got yourself a very stiff (I don't feel any flex at all) set up.
Good luck.
masterbiker 01-01-2008, 09:09 AM Those K-Swords are sick, I just picked up at set on a buy it now on ebay for cheap. Can wait to get them mounted up.

If you got it from a seller from China or Hong Kong when you get your bar inspect it carefully. I bought one from a reputable eBayer (from Hong Kong) and it didn't have any routing holes. I dropped an email to www.itm.it and they told me it was a counterfit and they inform me that it appears to be coming from China.
Anyway, I contacted the seller and he told me that his vendor cheated him.
I'm not so sure if that was the case but he did give me a full refund + shipping cost for both ways.
I ended up getting it from www.bike24.com along with a set of Fulcrum Racing Zero/Several Conti 4000S tires/tube/handlebar tape. The shipping was about $60 for the whole thing which was too bad considering it was coming from Germany.
Enjoy the bar they are stiff and very comfortable
dead flag blues 01-01-2008, 10:26 AM I like the EC90 that i put on my latest bike, it seems pretty bombproof. I'm building up 2 new bikes this year, and i'll go for something similar.
Cheers! 01-01-2008, 12:20 PM My vote goes to the Reynolds Ouzo Pro Round. You can find it at universal cycles. Round traditional bend. 191 grams.
