see if probikekit.com has what you need, they don't always have everything in stock but if they have what you are looking for the price is pretty good and includes shipping.

Last I checked, WiseCycleBuys.com will match any competitor prices, including dedicated eBay stores. I think LickBike.com will also try to price match.

kind of a group set- i would mind easing the strain with chorus brakes and possibly a few other chorus pieces- but mostly everything record.

thanks so far guys...

I have had very good luck with www.eurobikeparts.com (usa seller) on two different occasions on Campy group purchases. Very competitive pricing and excellent service.

competitive cyclist has '06 Chorus build kits (incl. bars, stem and wheels) for $999. tektro brakes, tho, for some reason.

I'd check prices from total, maestro, gearlink (having new years sale until tomorrow) and performance (you ought sign up for memebership for 10% discount and wait for 10~20% discount code.) That's how I get mine. If you don't mind you have to do some calculations and get em from a few different places as generally there is no one best price source.

Also wisecyclebuys is a good source to have items price matched so you can get em all from one place with free shipping. William is a straight forward good guy. You probably shouldn't try to have him price match to overseas sources though.

Also sign up at texascycle for weekly email specials and do the same at world cycling production and get 15% discount code emailed to you (I believe campy/ groups are not exclude like assos are.)

Lickbike will not match overseas prices. I tried to get them to match probikekit prices on some Campy Record components that I wanted to order, and they said they would go out of business if they tried to match overseas prices because the overseas wholesalers charge a lot less. So, no dice on price matches for Lickbike on overseas items. With that said, probikekit has pretty good prices. I ordered several Record components from them at a 10% discount, and the very next day they had a 15% discount. Now, I'll just have to continue to wait until they have a 15% discount before I order anything else. I felt like I got abused when the prices changed less than 24 hours after I placed my order and they wouldn't give me the difference.

It also appears that US wholesalers for Colnago charge a lot more than their European counterparts. I wonder why this is the case?

I've used GVHbikes.com, Lickbike.com, and competitive cyclist - all with good results. I just ordered several items from cbike.com during their 24 hour sale (they beat everyone on the shifters and derailleurs with the 24% off)....just shipped today, we'll see how that goes. GVH worked with me in terms of mixing and matching. He also price matched quite a few things to Lickton's. Good luck!

thanks all. thus far, lickbike and wisecyclebuys seem to be a pretty good place to order from in the usa. probikekit also seem to have good prices.

something about ordering from england scares me though- like it might be more of a hassle when something goes wrong.

thanks all!

I would be willing to bet that it would be a PITA if you had to send something back to England for warranty work or if something were to happen just with the shipment. ProBikeKit was completely inflexible about giving me any money back after I got jacked on the sales price less than 24 hours after my purchase, even when I threatened to send the entire package back for a refund and then order the same goods at the 15% discount. If I did that, I would have saved $10 to $20 after the return shipping, so it just wasn't worth my time. I just find it a little unsettling that if I lived by the shop, I could have returned the items rather easily and saved the $50 difference without much hassle, but because I was across the Atlantic they weren't willing to do anything for me. Gotta wonder how that would work for warranty service and if it would even be worth it to ship something back to them for warranty service. I even suggested that they just give me $20 of a Chorus cassette that I forgot to order, and there was no reply to that suggestion.

At the end of the day, I can fix almost anything on my bikes and I order small replacement parts from Smartbikes.com, Oschner, AirBomb, etc., so it doesn't cost me too much if something breaks. I have yet to have to deal with a warranty issue that I couldn't fix quickly and cheaply to avoid the headache of dealing with the warranty. However, if you aren't like me in the fix it department, you should worry about them being across the Atlantic.

Sad thing is that if Lick would have even come close to ProBikeKit's prices, I would have returned the package to ProBikeKit and ordered everything from Lick just to spite ProBikeKit.

Last I checked EuroBikeParts was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than PBK.com

Lickbike is cheaper than EuroBikeParts. Lick is something like $1,680 for the 8 piece Record group and Euro is something like $1,760. ProBikeKit is even cheaper than Lick when they are having a 10% or 15% sale, and by a lot. I ordered $950 worth of components from them at 10% off, and it was a savings of $300+ compared to Lick. About the only thing I didn't order in the groupo was the shifters and the cassette.

i also looked at GVHbike.com- someone who has been in the business for a while now. they seem to be just about the same price level as lickbike- and only just a bit more than pbk (perhaps 10 %).

so for 10% more, i can get somewhat (hopefully) better service ordering from a US retailer, and of course, i can keep the money in the usa :)

any more ideas?

thanks guys, you have really helped me sort out pricing.

cheers!

I know you have some hesitation about eBay but I just bought a 2008 8pc Record Group for $1635 shipped. The parts got here and I could not be more pleased. I saved over $300+ over my local shop quote. It comes with a full warranty because I bought it from an actual Bike Shop who is an Authorized Campy Dealer. All the warranty cards were in the box and I sent them in with zero problems. It's still worth a look. I have bought from Eurobikeparts in the past on eBay, but lately his prices have shot way up. Must be the Euro conversion.
