Is there any good/intelligent political talk radio that's either nationally syndicated or on the NY/NJ market? I'd like to try to catch 15 minutes of good analysis after work but it doesn't seem to be happening:

Hannity - complete idiot. Really, this guy is seriously stupid.

Savage - ranting lunatic who actually believes he's smart. Go figure!

Mark Levin(sp?) - even more of a ranting lunatic with a seemingly impressive background that just doesn't translate like it should. Was he really like this when he supposedly worked for Reagan!?!

Bloomberg radio - some of the guests sound like there one step away from death.

Help!

Is there any good/intelligent political talk radio...

Pretty much by definition, no. These folks are popular, and therefore paid, courtesy of their ability to stir the faithful and pass pass the ammo. (no particular spectral reference intended - same thing's true for either side.) Good and intelligent is specifically not what they are trying for.

If it were good / intelligent, it would sound remarkably like NPR. Which everyone knows is hopelessly biased against 'their' side, whichever side that might be.

As a neocon who tries to keep an open mind, I would have to say no. I listen to previous day's rebroadcast of Rush on the way to work in the morning and Air America on the way home. AA is usually Ed Schultz. Same sniping, opposite sides. AA was really coming down hard on Hillary when the polls were predicting a major loss in NH. They seem to be quietly letting it go now. Rush is Rush, he is predictable and is good at making an ass out of himself. It is all entertainment to attract viewers to buy the stuff they advertise.

I listen to NPR when the reception is good.

I listen to several shows and I get the rebroadcast of Rush, feel the same as Big Bill. The only place I can listen to NPR is in Jacksonville when driving through. I just thank the flying spegetti monster that John Stewart is back up and running on TV.

Alex Bennet on Sirius left...a true leftist. Hates the Democrats...hates the republicans. When there is nothing big politically going on the topics tend to turn to women's breasts and the like.

The Diane Rehm show on NPR is great. She's a liberal but she lets both side have their say. Very polite, no yelling. Awesome show.

This makes me feel fortunate I live in Wisconsin. Wherever I go in the state I can get public radio and some sane, intelligent and coherent discussion of political topics, from both sides. Can't you get a public radio station in the big bad apple?

I used to like the Young Turks on Sirius but one day they were gone. They were sort of left but one of the guys was at least center. No ranting and raving and an attempt at some decent commentary which is what I liked. The woman on the show was seriously dumb, though (or at least comes accross that way). Don't have Sirius anymore so it doesn't matter.

There used to be a guy in San Francisco who had a good show that was largely politics. He was almost in the dead center politically, with a slight lean to the left, but he was a highly skilled debater and could argue any side of an issue with total commitment. He would very quickly take apart poor arguments from callers (on any side), and anyone who called in to spew pure ideological nonsense was sent running with their tail between their legs. To me, this was the model for a political talk show. But you need a really intelligent host to pull it off.

The guy's name was Pete Wilson, and sadly, he died last year after hip replacement surgery.

used to be the morning DJ on a Bay Area Alt Rock station back in the 80s. Yeah, quite the character, didn't know he was now on Sirius. I'll have to tune him in next time I'm on Satellite.

On Pete's station, I like Gene Burns in the evening often when I'm working. I turn it off when Bernie Ward would come on, although he's been off the air lately as he awaits court proceeding on his child porn problem. A rarity - a moralistic ultra liberal caught up in child porn.... hardy-har-har how the world goes 'round.

During the day when I'm driving and not listening to KCSM jazz I'll hit on NPR either from Sacramento (Fresh Air at 9AM) or from the Bay Area station. I'll check in on Ronn Owens who often has top guests from the political and entertainment world but just as often has fluff.

He's funny, bright, makes coherent statements and argues his points well without being argumentative. He's respectful to his callers and really listens to what they have to say.

Don't forget to add "former priest" to Bernie Ward's list of accomplishments! That guy is a nut job for sure.

I haven't listened much to political talk radio in a long time. I started listening to Tony Bruno in the mornings when I drive in to work, and usually catch some of Gary Radnich on 680 when I go to lunch. Those guys get it: sports aren't important in the grand scheme, and are strictly entertainment, and getting too upset about anything that happens in sports is just stupid. Plus they are both really funny, and really knowledgeable about sports and other random stuff. It's amazing that two 50-60 year old white guys can have an almost encyclopedic knowledge about rap and hip hop music! WTF? They have separate shows, but Bruno comes on Radnich's show for a half hour at 10 am, and it is some of the funniest radio you will ever hear.
