We constantly read/hear that a long cage RD will shift slower and/or less smooth than a short cage. Why? The jockey pulley is in the same place and moving the chain the same amount. The only difference I see is the weight. Do you really think the inertia of this small mass difference can make a difference in function? Or is this just one of those things that a marketer said years ago and we just keep repeating?

I know I can't tell the difference in function. Main thing is the short cage just looks better. No deraileur looks the best of all. :cool:
