Looking for some opinions on the Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate wheels, I am considering picking up a set for the new bike build. They will be on a Look 595 Ultra with SRAM Red components.

of course wheel choice is a very personal aesthetic preference... for me on a 595 (is it the white or naked?) Personally to me those wheels are overpriced and i hate the really big carbon spokes and ugly hubs...(IMHO).... also $3k eek.

For me, Zipp rims look really HOT on a 595, especially the origin black/red one, which likewise would go schweet w/ the sram red. For around $1,800 USD you could get some Zipp 404 rims hooked up to anodised red tune hubs and be at around the same weight as the Mavic @ 1200g. Imo for far less $$ you get better quality hubs, easily replaceable Cx-ray spokes, and the red accents match the Look frame better... If you have the White frame, the new silver decal rims would go better (u can get the hubs in whatever color). Also, you're talking about a 58mm profile.. (versus just 40mm of the Mavs) The big yellow decals on the Mavic don't really suit the look 595 frame at all IMO. Of course, if you want 40mm profile, u can get the even lighter Zipp 303 rims...

oh, whatever u do, i demand pics !! :)

edit: oops, missed the bit about it being an ultra.. In that case, the Sram Red will go awesome, as will the Zipp rims w/ red decals - u can still get em easily... Red tunes for sure, and u can have red ano nipples if u want, ahh the beauty of custom !

+1
303 for climbing, 404 for flat/climbing. Both are very light...

Here are two good comparisons/reviews of the CCU's. I think they would look great on a 595.
