I bought an old road bike from the '80's that came with Shimano 600 derailleurs that I would like to replace with Campy. The only problem is, I don't know what will work. It is a 7-speed with indexed shifters. I've been scouring ebay, but the older Campy stuff never seems to have a particular number of gears associated with it. Does anyone here know what I can use?

Thanks for your help,

Rick

Cog spacing on Shimano 7, Campy 7 and Campy 8 are all the same. If you use Campy shifters and derailleurs together you will be fine indexing. If you use Campy Nuovo Record friction shifters, they work with anybody's derailleurs

Are there certain Model Names/Patent #s I should look for? That seems to be all the information a lot of these ads give.

I have Campy indexed shifters.

Thanks.

synchros were known to be crap... synchro IIs were ok. you can always get those rivendell silver shifters with the power ratchet or whatever they call it. those will supposedly work with anything

as far as derailleurs go, just ask the sellers... athena, chorus, record with 'straight' body, old-style cable adjuster, and what looks like 2 pivots would be 7- or 8-spd and would work, like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Campagnolo-late-C-Record-rear-deraileur-8-speed_W0QQitemZ170189315868QQihZ007QQcategoryZ5809 5QQss
