My LBS is doing a complete check on my 1 year old Seven ID8.

They have alerted me that they have found a SIGNIFICANT amount of what appears to be metal shavings located inside the bottom bracket cups.

Any idea what this could be from????

Don't you recall the unique feature of Seven's in that they get lighter over time by shaving off unnecessary bits and pieces? Most Weight Weenies would be thrilled.

If you have caged bearings, most likely bearing cage failure, like in this '07 Campagnolo Record Ultra-Torque. Should be obvious, though.

Depends on the details, but one possibility might be shavings from the seatpost falling down. Some BB's have a shield to prevent contamination from this direction, others do not.

If you are cynical, there's always the possibility that the shop put them there. If the next sentence out of their mouth included the words 'recommend ceramic', it was them. Take what's left of your bike and learn to do your own wrenching.

If the same shop built the bike, ask them what the hell they did wrong to make this happen. The answer might be nothing, but they'd better have a better thought than 'I dunno - never seen nutin' like it.'

Both Campy (UT) and FSA (some Mega EXO) BB's are intolerant of width differences. If they didn't check the measures or didn't install the cups correctly, bearings can so south in short order. Wouldn't tend to think it a problem with a Seven, but there's always a possibility.

shavings won't come off of Ti. Either from the BB cups, bearings, or the seatpost.
