Hey all. Ive reached a point in my life where I feel like I despertly need to get off the east coast. I visited boise a few years back and really liked the town, so its in the list of places to look. BUT the cross bug bit HARD this season and I need to move where there are some good races in the area. 2.5-3 hr. drive range would work.
Thanks.

There's a pretty good but kind of short season here. I haven't raced, but plan to this fall.
http://www.idahocyclocross.com/. They also broke ground on this: http://www.idahovelopark.org/ It's going to have a terrain/jump park, downhill, and maybe a 2-3k paved crit course.
Boise is a great bike city, there is any just about any kind of riding you want right out of downtown. Unfortunately the employment market isn't that good.

If you drive ~115 MPH you can make it to Salt Lake City in under 3 hours. We had 12 races last season. :D
The closest CX scene to Boise I have ever heard of is in Pocatello. Sam Kreig is the organizer.
Boise's cross scene is probably just a little behind SLC, but not far. I've never raced down there but had some friends race there. We are way ahead of Pocetello, but you can always drive to there or SLC in about 4 or 5 hours. But if you do that, you might as well drive the 6 hours to Portland and race where it actually rains.
The 2 websites above are good places to start. The velodrom park is supposed to have a cross course also.
Boise has 8 races at 2 different venues. This is our biggest problem, lack of venues (and lack of moisture). There is also 2 races in Sun Valley (biggest turn out about 75 per class) and 2 races at Tamarac (smallest turnout), both about 2 hours drive from Boise.
The races are getting bigger and bigger each year. I think this year we had about 20 - 25 racers per class, and only about 10 two years ago.
This is just the race scene, there are a lot of cross bikes around boise, because they work so great on our foothill trails (mostly smooth trails). There is an organized ride in the early fall on cross bikes that I think is around 80 miles and 10,000 feet of elevation. They get close to 80 to show up for that, most of whom don't race? - haven't figured that one out yet.

Rollcall Boise,
I did one race last year, Toys for Tots raced the "B" class.
Went to a couple others to drink beer (try that in Salt Lake ;), no fries and Mayo :( and had fun heckling the racers!
The Boise scene enjoys a healthy appetite of outdoor stuff and cycling falls into that category. CX seems to be enjoying a surge right now, where it goes is probably up to the local promoters, the VeloPark should help as well.

Some day, my friend, some day...
I didn't think anyone drank beer here either, but nothing beats a cold Miller Lite and watching the fast guys race.
I also just picked up my new-to-me psychlo-x. Check it out - it's still a work in progress as I'm changing a few things, but its got me excited for next cross season, just 8 months to go.
