Hi everyone! I'm moving into Berkeley in about a month, and I'm just wondering what kind of cassettes everyone is using. I've been riding up here on a 11-23 for a few days with a 53-39 up front, and it just isn't going to work, haha! I'm thinking of going to a SRAM 12-26, or an Ultegra 12-25 or 12-27 (most likely the 12-27). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

15 years ago, in my early 30's, I rode all over the east bay on a 'vintage' 12 speed with a 52/39 front and 13-28 rear. Now I have a 52/42/30 triple with a 12-25 rear. Sometimes I wish I had a 12-27, but I just grit it out.
Whatever feels good to you is what works.....

I live on the back side of the Berkeley Hills and I'm very glad I have a Ultegra 12/27 and a 30/42/52 up front. I really need them for my 54 year old knees, and everything else connected to those knees. I don't use the 30/27 often but we have a lot of very steep & long hills here!

I picked up a SRAM 12-26 today, and even in 39x26 I have trouble keeping my cadence up on some parts of the ride up to Tilden park from the Ashby side. Oh well, I've been biking for only three months. More training, more training! I'm going to join Cal cycling.
