any suggestions for a good, light, relatively inexpensive ( $200 -500) for clydesdale (200lbs). weight range 1300-1600g? I'm riding mainly flat slightly rough roads in the northeast, looking to lighten up my road bike without crushing the wheels(lol). thanks in advance.

Light, durable, cheap. Pick two.

Riding mainly flat roads is not a place where weight will help at all, and at 200lbs weight should be a pretty low priority in any case.

Somewhat inexpensive, very durable and reasonably light (for guys our size)

Call Lyle at http://www.spinlitecycling.com/. Ask him about Velocity Fusions with Ultegra hubs. He built up a set for me based on my >200lb beef and my riding style and I really like them. They aren't "sexy" but they are relatively light and very solid. Very dependable and easy to service (no special spokes wrenches or bearing tools)

He will ask you questions and then help you pick the right lacing and spokes. Takes a while to get them but they were packaged very well and as expected based on my conversation with him.

They will be in the middle of your price range (about $350) and a little over the upper of the set weight you desire.

If that is the order, then Tune hubs, Niobium 27mm rims, 24f and 32r, Lasers front and NDS, DB14s DS. The hubs will blow your budget though.

I got you beat by about 30lbs. and have been REAL happy with the ROL Volants! Enough infact - that I plan on using ROL on the new steed coming this spring!

Awesome rims!

Not only have they been getting the snot kick'd out of em since last spring - but, they probably added a good 1.5 mph to my avg.
