Hi Guys-
I need advice about what brand of clincher wheelset to buy. I used to have American Classic 350 Sprint wheels on my Orbea Onix, but after crashing in a race last year, the front is now a taco and the rear rim has a nasty dent. I weigh 130, so am way below the 200 pound limit for these wheels. I'd really like another super-light pair of Sprint 350's, but I have read reviews that say that these wheels go out of true easily and are not super-trustworthy. I want to stick them on my bike and forget about them- I'm not really willing to switch wheels on and off for training rides and racing. Light and durable are important to me, I don't care about looks.

FYI- I'm a female, 2nd year racing, climber, crits, road races, long distance training rides.

Got any advice? I can spend up to $700 or so. Thanks!

I'll say it first, but I'll be super nice about it: do a search of the forums and you will find exactly the info for which you are looking.

That being said, you will have no problem getting a set to meet your needs with that budget. Consider a handbuilt set (e.g. Niobium 30 or 27 rims with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and White Industries hubs) and you will have what you want: light, durable, easily maintained/repaired, fast.

I'd suggest some attention to aerodynamics too, since it won't cost you much weight. I'm thinking customs with Nio27 rims, CX-Rays, 20f 24r, White Industries or DT hubs. Tune hubs would be nice and light, but over your budget. I can't think of any factory wheels offhand that would be as good for the money.

Hi, Sierra Trading Post.com had some Mavic Kysrium SL's tubulars for $550. There around 1550g's. That's a great price and a great wheel. It might be difficult to find of light wheels for 700. DT hubs with Mavic Reflex rims hand built are close to that price range. Ride Safe, Bill

Just curious .............. what would be the price difference between Tune and WI hubs?

Just a ball park figure.
