Thanks ThumbPuncher 08-08-2004, 03:27 PM Anyone have any recommendations for a good bike fitter in the Boston area. Thanks If you are buying one, I would highly recomend Independent Fabricators. Been riding for well over 20 yrs and have never had a bike that fits me like my IF. Wade Fast Eddie 08-08-2004, 03:27 PM Fit Werx. Waitsfield, VT. I got fitted there (I live in Burlington), and while my new position is similar to my original one on paper, it has translated into considerably more comfort on the bike, expecially on longer rides. In the interests of full disclosure, I must let you know that I am, in fact, the mechanic at this business, so by all means do NOT take my word as gospel. Check out the website, give Ian and Sarah a call, and just talk to them to see if their services are a good fit (pun absolutely intended) for your needs. www.fitwerx.com Hope this helps. bill amc 08-08-2004, 06:11 PM Anyone have any recommendations for a good bike fitter in the Boston area. Thanks This is a very reputable place: http://www.wheelworks.com , its in Belmont, very close to Boston. I have been fit to 2 bikes there, and have been happy with both. There is a charge if you bring your bike in with you, but not if you are being fit to buy a bike. I'm sure there are other good places not far from Boston, but this is the only place I have personal experience with fittings. Rthur2sheds 08-08-2004, 07:30 PM I bought two bikes from wheelworks...great experience. They have another shop in Somerville, too... Wade No sorry I meant to put that in the original post. I am not looking to buy a bike at this point. Just tweak my current fit. SilasCL 08-09-2004, 07:41 AM Head over to Foot Fitness in Middletown, Rhode Island, just outside of Newport. Bill Peterson is the resident bike fitter, orthotic expert and all that. He's a pretty incredible guy, former national team ski racer who had knee problems which stopped his sports career, so he decided to pursue how the body worked, and found that it all comes down to the feet. If you decide to go there he'll make a custom orthotic to put in your cycling shoes, these accoutn for arches, leg length discrepancies, and other problems. Then he'll set up your whole bike for you, cleats, seat, bars, the whole bit. It's reasonably expensive, but my experience is that he'll rebuild your orthotics for a reasonable price, and a good fit lasts forever. He fits a lot of pros too, old 7-up team, navigators, etc. www.wedofeet.com I've gone there before for orthotics/bike fit, but have no other affiliation with the place, Silas willco99 08-09-2004, 09:09 AM Anthony at The Cycle Loft in Burlington, MA is absolutely great. He's been in the biz forever, racer, AND rides to work. He is honest and practical and will give you the straight story no matter what. He is the only good fitter I have met that treats the newbie, $800 bike customer just as well as the hardcore, $6000 bike customer. He also is funny and has some great stories. Go there, you will not be sorry! They have demos too! kfurrow 08-09-2004, 02:33 PM Anyone have any recommendations for a good bike fitter in the Boston area. Thanks I asked this same question on another site a while back and I was told to visit Fabish Sport (http://www.fabish-sport.com/DesktopDefault.aspx). He's located in Connecticut, but it's definitely worth the drive. My advice -- call / e-mail the guys at Wheelworks / Cycle Loft / Fit-Werx / Fabish and just see who you're most comfortable with. I doubt any of them will get the fit "wrong", but some of them might get it a whole lot more right then others. Of course components changes are extra. I can't afford to drop that much. I won't be able to afford any changes to components. In case anyone else is looking at this guy. He won't do a fit with float pedals. He told me he only fits with fixed pedals. When I asked if he could work around it he said no he wouldn't even consider taking me as a client if I was not willing to ditch my Speedplays for a fixed pedal design. So that would be what another couple hundred bones. $600 to $700 later ... voila perfect fit bike. Apparently this is the joint where Tyler does a lot of his fit work. Well if I guess if I was Tyler I wouldn't have to worry about the money. :D rufus 08-09-2004, 05:28 PM but tyler uses speedplays. Jdub 08-10-2004, 03:39 AM but tyler uses speedplays. Sorry, should have made that more clear. The guy won't do fits with X-series pedals. He will only do Speedplays if they are zeros with the float locked out. Tyler uses Zero's. |
