Thoughts? Not many earth shattering revelations. This is the first Democratic debate I've seen and only heard secondhand that Hillary outperformed Obama in previous debates, so I was concerned about how he's do. I don't think he's the Messiah, and was open to the possibility he'd show weakness or an inability to match her. But I thought he did fine.
Neither candidate embarrassed themselves, and both showed the ability to be competitive without losing control or losing contact with the audience.
The crowd was what impressed me. They were very enthusiastic without becoming a distraction. They seemed to really grasp the significance of what's going on, and relish the change that's coming. Texas should be proud tonight.

Did it sway your vote or change your opinion of either candidate?

The xerox line was a big mistake. BIG mistake. No oomph, and it was a cheap shot, smelling of deperation. If you are going to try that kind of thing, it has to work. It will be all over the tv for the next news cylcle.

Other than that, I think it was generally like many other debates, but Obama keeps getting better and better at turning things to his advantage. The "earmarks" question for example. "We've released it, I'll give you the list, I've passed legislation that......"

I think Obama will do what he has done for a while now, keep showing a rise in the numbers, and after TX/OH it will be over. Lots of minds will be made up in those two states tonight, and in a week the polls will show that. That's my guess.

Texas is always proud. I haven't always felt respect for Texas, but when you see your people outside of the stereotypical settings and see them expressing themselves honestly, they set a pretty good table and deserve the attention they get.

I hope so...trying to catch the debate here at work online while working was useless...so I was left to the pundits which is almost as useless.... PO I guessed would have a good take
on it

It was a mistake, and I don't quite understand it. It wasn't like it was part of her overall tone for the night. She didn't follow up with more "silliness". That's part of what makes it stand out. I think she heard the boos and immediately realized it wasn't that kind of crowd. Hillary did a lot of Texas-related name dropping, mentioning Texas towns and schools frequently. She definitely used the debate specifically to appeal to Texas voters.
I think Hillary may have made Obama uncomfortable while he was speaking. She stared straight at him with a firm smile throughout his entire answer, never looking away, down, blinking, never glancing at her notes or looking thoughtful.

They both kind of avoided going too deep into the super delegate issue.
I think Obama answered any questions about how he'd do in debates with McCain, so yeah, I think the decisions have been made.
I'm just waiting for my "Veterans for Obama" pin to come in the mail. But like most of his online campaign gear, it's sold out and back order.

I must've missed the "Libertarians for Obama" bumper sticker. Will have to go look again.

I think Obama won the debate. For whatever that's worth.

I agree the xerox line was stupid and Hillary came off as desperate. Plus she got booed for it.

Her answer to the question about whether or not Obama would be ready for the job didn't make much sense. She just rattled off her accomplishments instead of answering the question. I think after the xerox remark she wasn't going to take any more swipes at him.

All in all it was typical. They don't differ much from each other. And think there is enough mutual respect that it wasn't going to be earth shattering.

The one thing I hated was people keep saying they want to hear about how they differ from each other but when they finally got on the topic, of health care, where they did have some sparring going on, the moderators wanted to change the subject. WTF? When they finally touch on their differences you should let them debate the damn topic.

They say it's the closest thing to running a full national campaign. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/26/us/politics/26texas.html?hp
