View Full Version : My Senior Project
Marcos_E 02-24-2008, 05:10 PM Hey everyone, this is my first post on the forum and I wanted to show you all my Sr. Project.
I opted to build a road-racing bike from a frame and I had quite a time doing it. The amount of research and all that has been staggering, but so worth it!
Here's the Specs:
Frame: Kona '06 Zing Supreme
Materials: Hydroformed aluminum front triangle bonded to a Dedaccai
carbon fiber rear triangle
Front Dérailleur: Campagnolo Centaur
Rear Dérailleur: Campagnolo Centaur
Shift/Brake Levers: Campagnolo Centaur
Brake Calipers: Campagnolo Centaur
Crankset: Campagnolo Centaur Compact 53/39 172.5 Crank Arms
Cassette: Campagnolo Veloce 11-23
Chain: Campagnolo Veloce Narrow 10sp
Wheelsets: Campagnolo Khamsin
Tires: Continental Grand Prix 4-Season
Stem: Ritchey WCS Pro Aluminum
Handlebars: Ritchey WCS Pro Aluminum
Seat Post: Thompson Carbon
Saddle: San Marco Italia
Bar Tape: Ritchey Cork
Pedals: LOOK PP-27
I'm a Cat 5 rider and this will be my racer. Constructive criticism and compliments are merrily welcomed.

You can't see them? That's odd, I inserted the right IMG tags and everything. Here's the direct links to the pics:

rcnute 02-24-2008, 08:46 PM It looks great and you did a good job. But why is it a "senior project"?

The school just mandates that we do something that'll take us over 10 hours of hands-on time and 10 hours of research time and it has to represent a learning stretch. I joined up with a local cycling team this past November and needed a good race bike before race season, so I figured this was a great way of killing two birds with one stone.
rcnute 02-24-2008, 09:56 PM Cool. Much more fun than the senior projects in my day.
cdhbrad 02-25-2008, 06:15 AM This is great, now every time I build a new bike, I can tell my wife "it is furthering my education." Glad to see you had fun with the project.

lampshade 02-25-2008, 07:20 AM I took a public speaking class in high school where we had to give an instructional speech. I demonstrated how to change a flat on a bicycle.
Joelio34 02-25-2008, 07:41 AM Wow, nice job, i'm a senior now, and don't even have a senior project, I wish I could do that for school!
You will go far in life grasshopper.
Creakyknees 02-25-2008, 05:26 PM Nice ride.
Diggin the Campy. Is that current model year Centaur, or did you get the non-crippled model?

Thanks. Actually the school gave me a C on the project. I'm really mad at them. They felt that my project had too much personal gain attached to it. Their standards are ridiculous.

I had to provide pictures along the way and we have to have mentors sign off, verifying the work was done. My mentor was unsurprisingly the owner of my favorite LBS.
I'm stoked for race season on this thing. I gotta say, the smaller hoods do take getting used to.
