Hey all.
I just bought an 80s bianchi that has Ukai rims on it. I have never heard of them and a quick google search turned up little other than that they were japanese and have not really been sold in the US as such since early 80s. I mountain biked for years before i road biked, and i retain a lot of those habits, such as beating the living shi+ out of rims. Without knowing anything other than the brand, anyone know if these rims are durable? Anyone have any experience with them?

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

I think I had a bike that came with them. They're not especially heavy duty, but like with mountain wheels, the build can be more important than the model rim.

I had them on a BMX bike back in the early to mid-80's. They were bomb-proof...but they were 20" BMX wheels with high profile hubs. I truly beat the crap out of them jumping them on all sorts of big ramps with all sorts of harsh landings. They rarely needed truing. I am not familiar with the durability of the mountain rims though.
