Ever been tear gassed? It ain't a lot of fun. Sounds like the possibility of being gassed is pretty high if you plan to protest there.

Yes, as a matter of fact I've had a few doses of it in Army training. Kind of burns your mucous membranes a bit, does tear gas. And you can forget about breathing.

From the gist of that article, the RNC protests have a high probability of being Miami redux - but much worse.

"We're NOT a martial Police State, I insist! For we still have the Constitution, remember? Hey - we don't have rocks in our heads!"

I doubt it, sounds like the place will be locked down VERY tight. On the protest issue, I really have no problem with people protesting (peacefully) (Plus I love the overtime) That is what makes America great remember in China that didn't go over well unless your tank proof. What I do have issues with is the people who protest in streets blocking traffic ect...my take on it is you have every right to protest but don't infringe upon my right to get to places.

On a side note, yeah the gas and sprays burn, but that night when you go to bed you breathe so well......cleans out the plumbing :D

At the same time, the cops have no right to prevent people from protesting where they want if it's non-violent. But the mayor has already said he won't allow many areas to be entered, and wouldn't give permits even in the face of intense efforts to get them. So it seems to me the protest groups have done their level best to do things lawfully and through the proper channels.

Remember the "Right to Assembly"? The NY Gestapo won't.

I think too many people are fed up with Bush & Repub's to the point of a powder-keg situation if police antagonize anyone in NYC. And you know they will for an excuse to bust heads AND to have anti-Dem spin material for the evening news. The NY cops have already trained in the Miami tactics - in fact Miami is considered a model for many city police forces around the country. BAD NEWS.

Watch and see if it doesn't turn into a riot, shades of LA/Rodney King and Chicago '68.

The elements for a riot are not there. The local population will not support a riot, or even a traffic disturbance. The police are well trained and plentyfull.

The local's don't have to support it, there'll be enough warm bodies trucked in to get it started. Other than the fear of thuggish tactics used by various cop squads around the U.S. these past few years, I won't be surprised to see it happen.

We'll see....
