I purchased a new steel Fierte at a Labor Day 2006 sale and really like the bike. The only carbon is the fork. But like my other painted bikes, the paint gets scratched and chipped paint when it falls over. I was thinking bare titanium but decided for the price differential of getting a different bike I could send my bike in for repaint several times. That was until I visited the Serotta Garage at Serotta.com.
They had a bare titanium Legend SE ST and F-3 fork advertised as a lightly used demo for $1,690 that was exactly my size. Needless to say I bought and transferred all the parts over from my Fierte. I have not seen anything else that is close to this kind of discount in the Serotta Garage, but I am not complaining.
Check out the Serotta Garage, you may eventually find a bargain.
BTW - Neither the LBS or I could tell that the frame had ever been built up. Great clean-up job.
