Hey there!
With ever pair of gloves i had except one, they seem to fit wonderfully and be really comfortable for the first few rides. Then as time goes on, the seams start digging into where my fingers join the palm of my hands, they seem to get scratchy and just all-around uncomfortable.
is this me or do gloves just have a short lifespan?
should i just buy higher quality gloves?
cheers!

fortunately i have never experienced that. I have had many different gloves mainly specialized but have never felt any rub like that.

I get killer milage out of my gloves. I also don't have any problems with my feet. It seems this is more common with the big men. My brother is 6.5" and he eats socks and gloves. My 2cents.

Do you sweat a lot and never wash them? Do you wash them a lot in harsh detergent or dry them on high heat? Any of these things can make the leather/pleather stiff.

If you get it with all your gloves, regardless of brand, it's gotta be how you're treating them.

Or it's your sensitive hands, you delicate flower. Get a man's job working in construction and soon your gloves will be complaining about your hands instead of the other way around.

I like th Pearl Izumi Pittards, but I still only get a season or so out of a pair. Two seasons is pushing it.

mmmm i do sweat a lot, but i wash them frequently. usually i just toss them in teh washing machine along with jerseys and bibs.
ATM i'm using a pair of Castelli's which i'll be discarding soon enough. I'll probably go with a pair of Northwaves o Pearl Izumis next and pamper them all i can to see if that way i can at least get a season out of them.
I doubt weight is an issue here, i'm just under 150.

Maybe you should try just rinsing the gloves a few times--if you rinse while they're still wet from the sweat it's almost as good as a proper washing. Then air dry and see if things work out any better.

I usually just get tired of my gloves long before they wear out.

I've had Specialized gloves than I cannot wear out, and I've washed them in hot water for years! They remain comfortable too.

Best glove ever for me.

Get bigger gloves.

I have I would say average size (glove size 7 1/2, don't ask how I know that) hands and would get appropriate size bike gloves but they would often bind at my web spaces and wear out pretty fast. Now I just get size XL, they fell comfy and they last forever.

FWIW I wash my gloves every 2 months or so or if they start stinking really bad in mid summer.

Ditto on the Specialized gloves. Wear like iron. They will start to fade before they wear out.

Wash your gloves on the gentle cycle and hang dry. Best to have a couple of pair of gloves and rotate.

I won't wear any leather palmed gloves anymore for the reasons you describe. I switched to some fabric palmed gloves with lycra backs and they are the best. Nike and Giordana are the best I've found so far. They don't make the Nike's anymore. If you need more padding, then get some gel tape. That works better for me than having thickly padded gloves.

I can get two seasons out of a pair of gloves pretty easilly. I just wash them with my bike clothes or rinse them out in the shower.

I love my Nike gloves ever since I used em. They were the short gloves but I've since changed to a pair of TT swift gloves (nike) and use em on almost all my rides coz I like the padding (just right) and the fact that it's really tight and snug over my hands. And, no velcro coz it's slip on up till part of your forearms.

I find that fingerless gloves tend to make my fingers / thumbs numb at times. Especially on long rides. I go gloveless when it is hot and I am alone or full fingers in groups in case of an accidental crash.

I generally don't wear them, so no problems.

I ride from 5 to 7,000 miles per year. I have a pair of Performance gloves that I've worn for 4 years. I'm goint to wear them again this year. I bought a real nice pair of Pearl Izumi's. They were absolute garbage. They honestly didn't last much longer that a month to 45 days before they were so bad, I threw them away.

I have a pair of Pearl Izumi Gel Vent gloves that are going into their third season. They were pricey (retail $40) but are comfy for me and have been durable. I only wash them a couple times throughout the year. Yep, they get gamey after a while...

Pearl Izumi gloves here as well and they're going on 2nd season and still look like new. I don't wash them, maybe throw some water on them from a water fountain while riding the MUT but no actual washing.

I have Pearl Izumi's gloves that I hand wash after each ride. I just use a drop or two of hand soap or dish soap and air dry. They are two years old, look good, and I think they'll last longer than the washer and dryer treatment.

I also have an pair of Performance gloves with sythetic leather that are over 5 years old and look like hell, but I use them as a back up (when I forget my Pearl Izumi's are air drying at home) or when the weather is crappy.
