Looking at the new soul bike S2.0 wheelsets, they seem to be using the new kinlin 22mm deep rims at 24h for the rear (front too) with what looks like a cx-ray type spoke and brass nipples. They advertise no weight limits.

So if what they say is true, seems like a set of the new rims at 24h on group hubs would be a righteous build and come in sub 1400g. Though I run campy and would have to do some modified crows foot up front and triplet lacing in the rear because of 32h record hubs. I weigh 175lbs.

Just worried about the claims about no weight limit. Seems like they could get away with 20h front but they don't, though perhaps this is to keep the spoke lengths the same front and rear and thus lower cost of production (cheaper bulk spoke deal).

Anyone actually build a set of the new rims with 24h rear?

edit: also why the brass nipples in the rear. I thought the use of brass nipples was to extend the amount of truing that can be done. seems they expect a lot of truing issues with the rear if they spec brass nipples.

I am sure the 24h rear works but does it work good. Low spoke count wheels will hold bigger or stronger riders but if they ride them a lot they eventually break. If you are going to order a pair I would ask if they can build you a 28h rear instead.

wasn't going to order from them but thinking of building a set of my own.

though it looks like you disagree with their no rider weight limit claim.

these new rims are wider and deeper. how much would that effect rider weight limits.

I don't disagree it just depends on the rider. I built some 20h rear AC 350 rims when I worked there and they are still being ridden to this day but the guy is very easy on his wheels.

Kinlin rims are typically soft, good luck with that.

Kinlin rims are typically soft, good luck with that.I roide some mm (AC350) for 2+ years with Aerolite spokes 28h RNGS/2XGS in back and I was fine @ 175lbs. 1yr+ on the 25Mmm tubulars 24h RNGS/2XGS no issues. Now on 30mm 24H RNGS/2XGS and they feel fine! file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Giovanni/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-2.jpg

Don't think triplet would work well on the back... but you could do crows-foot there also.

But I'd suggest 32r and 24f... use al nipples... should be solid. If you want them really light, then get lighter hubs and do 20f and 28r. 24r seems like a bad idea unless you are really light on your wheels. Just because they don't advertise a weight limit doesn't mean much... maybe there is no warranty? Weight is only one part of the equation anyway.
