I just rode my new set of Ritchey 58mm carbon tubulars for the first time this past weekend in a short TT and in a short crit (about an hour long). the roads were fairly bumpy in both events. i notice that i have a considerable amount or lateral runout in the rear. should i get the wheels trued now or do you think that i should wait another race or two. thanks in adavnce.

Yes, get them done now, this time by a competent wheelbuilder. I will suggest you do them yourself and then you know they are done right. They need tensioning to the optimum tension, truing, tensions equalizing, stress relieving etcetera. If this had been done properly in the first place they would never need to be touched at this point.

If you read my wheelbuilding info (http://miketechinfo.com/new-tech-wheels-tires.htm) you will find all the info you need - especially links to great resources.

thanks mike for the quick reply. wheelbuilding is definitely a subject that draws my interest and i am eager to learn the art of wheelbuilding. unfortunately, i dont have enough time to dive wholeheartedly into the subject before my next race.
thanks for informing me that my situation isnt one that should occur with wheels that have been properly built. it should've been obvious since my other set of ritchey wheels exhibited the exact same trait- having a fair amount of runout after the first couple rides.
thanks again.

You're very welcome and I'm happy to be of service. That Roger Musson e-book linked from my site is a beaut and should be on the reading list of all wheel owners.
