Maybe I am just getting old, but it seems like more and more things are happening that just blow my mind. The kind of stuff that should be a joke, an Onion article, is actually true. Consider this:

Leonard Peikoff has endorsed John Kerry for president.

Objectivists endorsing democrats. Big name, heck, HUGE name objectivist no less. What is this world coming to?

I'm no academic, and I try to avoid college campuses (where I inevitably run afoul of one "correctness" or another, just stepping in it like horse manure) but surely 'objectivism' isn't taken seriously in colleges these days? You casually mentioned it almost as if it were a real discipline instead of just fascio-politico crackpottery.

I always viewed it as kind of a parlor game. Kind of interesting, but not a philosophy worth too much of my time. Hey...any philosophy that the band Rush endorses has to be a bit suspect.

Derided is more like it, when it is mentioned at all.

The most charitable thing I have ever heard about it is that if you grant the definitions, then everything follows from those. But the definitions are pretty wacky.

It looks like it is an "anti religion" decision. Fundies are a bigger threat than commies, or so he thinks.

BTW, I say all this as someone that read most everything rand wrote in a week in college. Yes, I read fast. Yes, it was to get laid. And yes, it did work.

And no, I have not read a word since.

I read all her stuff and didn't get laid (as a consequence), and in fact I probably turned off a few ladies by spouting the objectivist babble. No fair! ;)

That aside, I'm puzzled the Piekoff would endorse either main candidate.

She had half a shaved head with a tail, and long hair on the other other side. A punk objectivist.

NOT a randroid. Rather she turned out to be one of the "there is a reality out there and we can know it" types. She also thought rand elevated her own kinks and tastes to the level of objectivity. The term "submissive" did not apply to her!

Still doesn't. I married her.
