Anyone got any guidance/comments on the Winfield Crit this weekend for a newbie cat 5? I'm thinking I'm just going to do the Saturday twilight cit/5 race.

Also, when I sign up for a 1 day license... does that put me in the cat 5 group? i.e. saturday is a cat5/citizen... but sunday breaks out the citizens and cat 5's. I sort of thought they were one in the same.

Technically, when you buy a one-day license you are a Cat5 according to USCF. It is up to the promoter whether they want to have a separate race(s) for one-day and annual.

Some promoters have an actual Citizen class with no one-day license required. (I don’t know what they are doing for insurance.) The Arlington crit a couple of weeks ago had two Cat5/Citizen races (one pre-reg, one same day) with annual and one-day Cat5s in the same races as the no license Citizens. Citizens could not win primes or prize money.

I did the Citizen 40+ race last year at Winfield and they required a one-day license.

I guess it’s just up to the promoter.

Winfield is agreat race. 4 corner course with a long front and back straight. Hill in corner 3. Corner 4 is fast but very wide. (They may use a different course on Sat?).

I now have race number 2 under my belt. :) I'll soon be able to write an entire book on how not to race.

#1 lesson learned at arlington heights was stay near the front and out of trouble.

#2 lesson was learned at the winfield twilight crit... dont randomly decide that the two guys in front are going too slow, fly by them, and then 'blow up'. Should have sat behind them for a while... there wasnt any reason to make that move.

At least I finished this one, its a step in the right direction. The saturday course had roughly 6 turns (different location than sunday). I was told the uphill was longer than sunday route, but not as steep. Nice course, good people.
