Again, who controls the credit card?

Now, let's overlay congressional control... Same shape, different conclusion.

Neither party gets a pass on this one.

We'll only get ahead of it when we stop letting them sucker us into the 'it's them, not me' blame game, and hold each and every legislator individually responsible for the whole stinkin' swamp that city is built on.

Obviously, we're not there yet.

Hmmm? Would the chart support the same conclusions if national debt were weighed against majority control of congress?

It also doesn't say much about which administration is getting us into commitments that have longer reaching impacts (insert example here - *coff, coff* Iraq *coff*). The trends are the telling bits of information.

Regardless of who it is, the next President will be stuck with figuring out an awful lot of things.

the only 2 years wherethe debt drops under HW Bush is when the Demshave both houses. '91 and '92

I guess the Cons should have examined this for veracity before they started trying to point their dirty little fingers at the Dems

really not good to bring up a point of debate that aids the opposing party's POV

and it's even worse, since the costs of the Iraq war have been off the books so far.

I'll give you that but if you look though the debt drops considerably during the Clinton Admin when Repub have control. oops

Crap, during the Reagan and Bush 1 admin when the debt went up with the Dems controlling the purse string there.

what is it with Cons and their penchant for off book financials....Enron et al ... Bear Stearns et al.... hmmm, kinda funny how the cons don't like transparency...makes one wonder why

Like *coff, coff* social security *coff* medicare *coff* medicade *coff* welfare *coff* farm subsidies *coff* corporate lovefests *coff* *hack* *puke*. Hell, this war is a complete failure as far as pissing away money goes.

Hate the war all you want. I sure do. There's no way to justify it or minimize it's negative impact to our country. But if it's all you are angry about, you're just not paying attention.

What the graph shows is that the Repub penchant for cutting taxes without corresponding cuts in spending (or with dramatic increases in spending) is fiscally idiotic. Fine, push for and pass tax cuts, but also have the cajones to cut programs by the same amount. Cutting taxes without cutting spending is a shameless political circus.

...shameless political circus.

Now you're getting close to the real truth... bread and circuses...
