I have posted my bike before which is a single speed (ENO hub) Cannondale Badboy. It is the year they used 26" rims so in the winter I use 2.1's and in the summer I use Specialized Pro's that are 1". As much as I hate the look of fenders I was thinking of turning this into my rain bike which would include fenders.

The dilemma of course is what fenders to use and what width? Most fenders that fit 26" wheels are extremely wide to fit a mountain bike tire and would look ridiculous over the 1" tires. The other hand I think I could use road finders and just arc them around the tire a little more without much problem but I don't know if it could be done effectively. A third idea would be to use wooden fenders, because I think I would have more l attitude with the arc but not sure how well the repel the water as they don't cup the tire like the plastic fenders do.

Does anyone have any experience or other suggestions?

One thing to consider, is even if you use the wider fenders, they will catch that much more spray off the wheels. Plus you can trim them a bit to fit your bike. Fenders make a huge difference, and really help keep you so much more dry.

I can't say how well they work, but I think you'll have the same cosmetic issue with wide fender vs narrow tire.

I'd say your choices are to either use one tire size only or buy 2 set of fenders. Once they're fitted, it's not much work to switch them.

fenders usually don't arc evenly around the tire, often depends on placement of the supports b/w the chainstays and seatstays... that said, 650b fenders are starting to show up so you might consider those
