I'm having trouble finding a 53t ring in 130mm spacing. I really don't have the money to swap out cranks... the ones I have seen are all 144mm.
Are they not made in plenty or am I just not looking good enough? It doesnt need to be any specific brand, but nothing too pricey.
Also, isn't it ok to use a 3/32 ring with 1/8th chain? Or would that cause unnecessary wear? I'm thinking the latter...
Thanks guys!

From what I've seen, 130mm Shimano is usually road stuff, all the track specific rings are 144mm generally. You can use a 3/32 130mm ring for track use as long as your chain line is good. *remember to check!*
Pretty sure if your chainline is good you don't need to worry about wear too much, that is it at max marginally worse for wear... but I'll leave this one to the track champions.
I wouldn't run a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 chain ring if you're riding a track bike. Even with a good chain line, that combo is known to sometimes throw the chain on a standing start. It's not bad for road use though. Do you really need a 53?

I don't need a 53.
My plan was to get the 53 ring and run three different sized cogs in the back. The Surly dingle cog with a 17/19 and then an 18 on the other side. I like changing things up and with that set up it gives me 73, 77 and 81 Gear inches, and I'd probably be running the 53/18 for most of my riding (messenger work).
Now that I look, the dingle cog can only run a 3/32 chain, so I can use a road ring and jsut swap to the smaller chain.
I also just like the way a big chainring looks.
