Finished it and it rides great. I'm used to hammering hills, etc on a new ride so I thought I'd be babying it or that it would be rickety and skipping teeth. Not so. This thing is fast! I lost no time on my usual route even with the downtube shifters. I should run a comparison b/w SRAM Force and Campy NR!
For those who want to follow along on my other builds here's the blog. Only the PX-10 is logged now.

Wow. The PX 10 was the standard for a racing bike when I got started in the mid 70's. (You weren't "allowed" to have a Colnago unless you were dominant.) That looks great. You learned the dirty little secret that bikes were essentially just as fast back then as they are now. I hope you ride it alot. Have you ever tried clips and straps? They would go with that era.

I've never ridden with straps but have a few pedals with the toe clips. I think as I get more of the projects done, clip pedals will find their way onto some of them. It's kinda fun to keep it all similar to your modern stuff so you can feel the differences in ride quility. JMO

I keep coming back to your pics. The guy who taught two of my friends and me to draft and ride in a paceline back in 1974 had a black PX 10 just like this. We were on bike boom Schwinns and a Raleigh. One of my friends went on to race in Europe. I learned that bike racing is the most painful experience I've ever had, not from crashing but from shear sustained physical effort. I like your PX 10 more than the latest Orbea. FWIW, I have also used clipless pedals on a 1970's bike.

My first real bike was a white PX-10, circa 1972, and it's one of the best I ever had. Alas, I sold it during a down time in life. I miss it and maybe I can build up another. PX-10's are great rides. Is that a TA crankset? old campy rear der? I had a stronglight crank with the star pattern, an alloy simplex rear and campy front - I was not completely authentic back then, but most of it was french. Yours is just flat beautiful! Congrats!!!

Thanks for the comments. The cranks are Stronglight model 99 that came with the bike. The blog tells the story of why I didn't install the "correct" model 93 crankset. The rear DR is indeed a Campag NR. I did have to modify the rear hanger as it was overly modified by an owner in the past.
