So I just wrecked my 08 Roubaix and need to replace the frame. Once I realized how much it would cost I started shopping around for other options and am now interested in starting over with the 07 Zurich. I have been riding casually for 10 years on an old steel Schwinn World Sport and recently decided to upgrade and put my car on the shelf. I bought the Roubaix because of its price and the comfort as I'm not racing and most of my rides are 40-60 miles. I rode it almost everyday till I killed it and loved it. The 07 Zurich has caught my eye because of the Ultegra group (the roubaix was/is 105) and the lower price. My options now are to pay $1500 - 1800 for a new Roubaix frame plus the cost of new wheels, or $1999 for the Zurich (which would be upgraded components from my perspective).

Just looking for a comparison. In the end if the Zurich feels good I think I'll go that route.

Any thoughts?

Maybe you can get an even better price on the Zurich now that Lemond and Trek are parting ways.

have you checked with Specialized to see if they have anykind of crash replacement program?? I recently bought a Blue Nx7 and read about their program. Might be worth it to look into it.

when you get down to it, if you really loved that bike, why look elsewhere? is price the only problem? if so, maybe you can work with your LBS...

The first thing to do is call your dealer and ask what Specialized's crash replacement policy is. I can't find any exact references to what it will cost, but did find this old thread which talks about it, but doesn't give many details. When you find out if they'll give you a deal let us know.

I did get a quote from Specialized about the wreck replacement. I have the option of full replacement of the bike I bought for about $300 under retail. Or the Roubaix Pro frameset for about the same, $300 under retail. So with the cost of the wheels I would need to pick up with the frameset both of those options, plus the Zurich option, are about the same price. It will just come down to how the zurich rides and if I want I feel like upgrading my frame without a new set of components...
