I'm looking for a chain tensioner for my single speed convert..
****I've had the bike for two weeks and I'm addicted to single speed riding now... Still need to ride my geared bike for crits and crit training though!!!****

I've been looking online and noticed that there various tensioners. Is there a big difference between them. The problem I've had with the bike is that the chain has come off more than once and the chain seems pretty loose so I'm sure the tensioner will remedy the problem.

You're running a single speed set up with vertical dropouts resulting in chain with too much slack, no? The easiest solution would be to install a tensioner. I don't know the diff between them as I've never used one before.

I have used the Surly with great results on my mountain bike and there are other quality tensioners such as Soulcraft and the Rennen Rollenlager. Don't know about the cheaper models like the Pyramid, maybe someone else can chime in about those.

i strongly recommend a fixed tensioner (vs. spring-loaded). see rennen rollenganger.

I would recommend a magic gear which I did. It is a little tedious and somewhat hit or miss but with a little help from the link below (courtesy of naawalis) you'll be rewarded with a quiet and clean looking single speed.

I will also echo what blakcloud suggested as among the best from testimonials I read. And yes, there is a difference as most inexpensive ones are not as smooth and quiet.
