View Full Version : Can I borrow your Starnut Setter? CrankyMonkey 04-17-2008, 01:03 PM Does anyone have a starnut setter I can borrow this weekend? I'm trying to finish my build... http://www.flickr.com/photos/uhduhmoblog/2421210698/ wipeout 04-17-2008, 01:08 PM You mean there is a tool for that? Whoa. :) robwh9 04-17-2008, 03:54 PM I've always used a large flat-blade screwdriver and hammer. kdub 04-17-2008, 06:44 PM I just set a startnut into my new fork yesterday. I just hammered it in. kdub 04-17-2008, 06:45 PM You mean there is a tool for that? Whoa. :) Yes there is ukiahb 04-17-2008, 09:33 PM a socket of just the right size (and an extension) would probably work too for driving it down squarely.... GadgetGuy 04-17-2008, 11:31 PM You could take the starnut to a hardware store and buy a 2" long bolt that fits it. Then thread the bolt pretty far into the starnut and you have a good striking surface for your hammer. As you slowly drive the starnut started down the steerer tube, you can gradually unscrew the bolt to keep the striking surface above the top of the steerer tube. The bolt is also useful to gauge how squarely you are setting the starnut because if it's crooked you'll quickly see that the top of the bolt is tilted off center. wipeout 04-18-2008, 06:05 AM Yes there is Didn't know that, I used a wooden dowel and a hammer. :) roadfix 04-18-2008, 10:16 AM Just ram it it. You don't need a special tool for that. jinws 04-18-2008, 11:52 PM I have one. where are you located? CrankyMonkey 04-19-2008, 08:24 AM I'm in Sunnyvale... Thanks for the offer but I'm not going to need it after all. I made an appointment with my shop to take care of it for me. |
