As I have stated before, this is the first year that I am actually "training". So of course we are having unusually cold weather for this time of the year. Wednesday (the usually night for the hammerfest) is calling for snow/rain with high winds and I didn't ride yesterday because there were gusts up to 50 mph and a the temp was in the low 30's. Long story short, I'm not riding as much as I would like for about a week. Should I sweat it or do you guys just do what you can do and call it good?

If you can't ride, you can't ride. What can you do?

I have a bike trainer for just that purpose...I still spend about half my rides indoors on it, even though technically spring is here.

For that matter...my work schedule dictates that I work from 10:00am to 6:30pm on Monday and Tuesday, so I have to get my workouts done in the morning on those days. With the amount of time it takes to get dressed, the bike ready to go, water bottles filled up, etc...I just ride the trainer in the mornings...besides I don't want to deal with morning commuters.

Buy a trainer, use it when you can't get out and ride and not only can you maintain your fitness but build on it if you do it right.

if you're "serious" then get a trainer.

Sometimes life intrudes and gives you an unplanned off-week. IMO the important thing is (1) don't beat yourself up over it and (2) get right back on that horse.

For me, the thing I second-guess most is knowing when to lay off, and when to hammer through difficulties.

The real trick is to set up your training in a way to minimize disruptions. After a couple seasons of training you figure out what works best. I've found that you end up breaking so-called 'rules' in order to fit training into a hectic schedule.

Like others have said, don't beat yourself up and get right back into it.
