you're damn near tickled to death that my beloved Democratic Party has in its stunningly perfectly head-shakingly predictable way, snatched collapse, defeat, bitterness and a generation of internal rancor from the jaws of absolute certain victory this year.
No wonder I sat this one out.

I am increasingly becoming of the notion that McCain will win in November.
shawndoggy 04-29-2008, 07:59 AM It'd be mighty ironic if we allegedly progressive dems blow the party up over electing a biracial man or a white woman. From my elitest perch on the Obama side of the fray, I'm disappointed about the uneducated dems' apparently unwavering unwillingness to support Obama... at least some of which I believe must be the result of latent racism.
I'm sure there must be an equally strong feeling on the other side of the divide... but I guess if those folks can't figure out how to get a state ID, they sure aren't posting their thoughts on the politics only board on RBR.
thatsmybush 04-29-2008, 08:02 AM My final tally.
1-republican president
55-democratic/ind.(the "ind" is not for Lieberman who will be kicked to the curb, but for Bernie Sanders) senators
236-democratic congressmen
As for STEAM he will be crying in his beer, he is a liberal, he just has too much fun playing republican on this site to quit.
dr hoo 04-29-2008, 08:16 AM Still THIS early in the game and you are already ready to quit?
From where I sit you can't tell how the game is going to play out until the players take the field. And the starting lineups haven't even been announced yet. Wait until McSame gets 1/2 the media attention, and see how he handles a hit or 12 before you call the thing over.

Don't despair, it ain't over yet. McCain still has to live through the general election and remember where the White House is.

It's over for those who think the election was all about Hillary. It's over for the rest of the Democrats if they get brainwashed into the same shortsightedness.
The voters haven't been presented with the traditional one-on-one battle between two candidates from the opposing parties. I don't really think McCain can go through the election anonymously. That's his best chance. It will be interesting to see what happens when he's put out in front of the public, and they have a chance to see how sketchy he is, see how his age is definitely affecting his faculties, and see him contrasted with Obama.
Are Democrats so egocentric that they are willing to give up because they forget the election involves two candidates?

I can't wait to see the stammering, reads from a teleprompter and still can't offer a cohesive thought, McCain in a one on one debate against either Hillary or Obama. It should be quite the spectacle.

Just this year? How 'bout that fiasco in '04? It would seem the Democrats have perfected the art of nominating the unelectable...
While I'm fairly new to the party, I guess this is something I'll have to get used to.
So sad, really.

...when he said, "The American people say they want change...but in November, they may decide that a 71-year-old white man is all the change they need."
I swear to Christ, if the Dems piss this away, I'm going to vote Green the rest of my life. I've gotten through the last three years by thinking, "At least that ****up in the White House is SUCH a ****up that we'll be rid of his family forever." Now I'm thinking we get four years of McCain, then Vice President Jeb steps in to restore the family honor, and when he's done in 2020, young George P. will be 44, just right for a run.
HTF did this happen?

They've already pissed it away. Hillary had a real chance till they pushed her so far left as to give that old man traction. She had the war issue right, still does in reality but she's had to promise withdrawal rather than being a leader and that would hurt her if she were to be the nominee. There is enough financial pain to give her credibility on that front but the war is going to be the, if I may, decider.

Blame this guy...
Without the fundies, GW would never have happened.

Apparently 60 percent or so of people agree with you, but I can't . . . ah, what am I saying? Harry Reid is my Senator, and I've been dealing for years with people who think he's two steps left of Karl Marx. But I can't think of a position she's taken in years that I'd call liberal. She sort of thinks it would be a good idea if people didn't die because they can't afford health care, and she'd rather like to see children educated, but she's not going to put herself out on a limb for those things. Have we reached the point where that's an unacceptably left-leaning viewpoint?

I'm inclined to agree with you; I always categorized HRC as a "moderate."
Like Gore Vidal said, this country has one political party with two right wings.
