My girlfreind and I are coming to the bay area mid May from Canada and have arranged a campsite at Halfmoon Bay. We want to ride the San Jose(Mt Diablo) area and then head down to Seaside and ride towards the Bixby Bridge. So are there any good state(or other) campsites with showers in the Monteray/Seaside area.

It would also be great if there was an RBR ride mid may in the area

San Jose and Mt Diablo are something like 50 miles apart. Maybe you are thinking of Mt Hamilton?

Sorry, can't answer any of your other questions.

RBR usually has a mid-peninsula ride on the first Sunday of the month (the next one is in two days) usually followed by a Southbay ride the following Sunday. The Southbay includes San Jose, though the ride skirts SJ, I think.

Hmm... If you did want to ride around Mt. Diablo, there are campsites there.

But that is East Bay... not very touristy... unless you head towards Berkeley. Its about a 60 mile round trip ride to get from Mt. Diablo to Berkeley and back.

There are also some campsites north of Santa Cruz near Pescadero, fwiw. Great riding in that whole area. Butano I think it is called.

If in Monterey area I'd try to stay on south end of Monterey, more towards Carmel, rather than Seaside (north end of Monterey). Also look in Carmel Valley, that area is beautiful.

Our shop is the one that hosts the mid-May ride, May 11th at 8 a.m. next month (early start for Mother's Day). Would love to have you join us. You did not mention it but if you do need bike rentals, we have a pretty nice rental fleet. Look here for details (http://www.svcyclingcenter.com/bikeconcierge/bikeconcierge.php).

There's camping at Veterans Memorial Park in Monterey and Andrew Molera and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Parks in Big Sur.
