I will be vacationing in Newport in a few weeks (9/13) and looking for some rides of 50 mile+. Not bike paths. I am staying in Newport as a base but I am looking for routes that will take me over the bridges as well as routes into SE Mass.

Thanks in advance to all..

I think your best bet is to try the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen website www.nbw.org. Reminder about the bridges... the Newport bridge can't be ridden over on your bike (as far as I can remember). I live on the mainland side of RI so don't know that area very well for road riding. Good luck,

I would highly reccomend riding around Sakonnet Point, or out towards Horseneck beach. These roads will take you from around the Fall River area, out through Little Compton, and many other towns. Great roads and great scenery. They will take you through the vineyards of Sakonnet Winery, Westport Winery, and miles of seacoast. It's some of the best riding in New England in my opinion. You would have to drive to Fall River at least to ride some of these routes, but it would be very worth it. It's many of the same roads used by the Flatest Century in the East. You may find more info by checking out the site of the club that runs that one.

I'm sorry I don't know more street names to guide you, but there are some great roads out there. You may want to head toward Adamsville, RI off of Stafford Rd. in Fall River. That is the start to both of these rides. I highly reccomend them.
